Emily in Paris Season 5 Episode 5 is titled Bonjour Paris!

Emily is back in the city, but Paris is still as emotionally complicated as ever. The plot of this episode is about her dealing with both professional fires at Agence Grateau and personal tensions, particularly those regarding the secrets surrounding her closest friends.

She drops back into her Paris life after the Rome detour: same apartment, same croissants, same agency grind. Except, everything feels off. Work-wise, she is stuck cleaning up after Genevieve’s drama, and now Sylvie has her own issues, practically dangling by a thread at the agency. Emily is playing therapist, referee, maybe even babysitter at this point.

And then her friends, Mindy and Alfie, have a bunch of secrets that apparently everyone knew about except Emily. She starts realizing her inner circle has been playing their own game behind her back.

Emily in Paris Season 5 Episode 5 begins with Emily and the gang: Sylvie, Mindy, and all, finally rolling back into Paris after the Roman holiday. Emily believes she is totally fine and everything is cool, mostly because she gets to hang out with Mindy again. She is stoked to be single with her bestie. Or at least she thinks they are both single.

Meanwhile, Sylvie stumbles into her apartment, and a random woman is chilling in her clothes. Laurent, her husband, apparently decided to up the ante on disrespect by inviting one of his “friends” over. Sylvie has had it. She lays down the law: he needs to show some respect if he wants their marriage to survive. Then, as if things weren’t messy enough, Laurent floats the idea of a threesome with his girlfriend.

Back at Agence Grateau, Emily, Luc, and Julien walk in to find that Genevieve, who is technically supposed to be the assistant, is launching her own fashion line called “Bonjour, Bitch.” She is hustling her brand and ghosting her actual job. Sylvie isn’t having it. She tells everyone that, after their Roman shenanigans, they need to get their act together and lock down some Parisian clients.

In Emily in Paris Season 5 Episode 5, there’s a new client, Thomas Heatherton. He is a hotel CEO and kind of a pain. The first pitch fails. Thomas shuts it down. Emily jumps in with a new idea, something about real Parisian neighborhoods. He actually digs it. Sylvie gives her props, but behind the scenes, Luc and Julien are ready to toss Genevieve out. Sylvie is on the fence since Genevieve has family ties.

Sylvie ropes Emily into refereeing another mess: Gabriel and Antoine are at each other’s throats over the restaurant’s menu. Antoine is threatening to can Gabriel if he doesn’t quit pushing changes. Emily steps in, plays peacemaker, and later pulls Gabriel aside for a heart-to-heart.

Night rolls around. Emily and Alfie hit up Mindy’s show at Crazy Horse. Alfie is all cheers for Mindy but bails on the group dinner. Instead, he sneaks off to text Mindy, and she lies to Emily so she can slip away with him. When they are alone, Mindy tells Alfie they have to tell Emily what’s up if they want to be legit. He is in, so they set up a dinner to spill the beans.

So, the next day, in Emily in Paris Season 5 Episode 5, Genevieve manages to blow it again. This time, she forgets to get a visa for Heatherton’s guest chef, so the launch event is a disaster waiting to happen. The client is losing their mind. Emily, thinking fast, suggests Gabriel as a stand-in. Thomas is all for it, just says yes right away. But Sylvie is freaking out because Gabriel and Antoine are already barely speaking, and this is just gasoline on the fire. Emily talks Gabriel into it anyway, and he goes for it.

Elsewhere, in Emily in Paris Season 5 Episode 5, Nico asks Emily to help him patch things up with Mindy. She rejects. Mindy is happy and doing her own thing and doesn’t need his drama. Guess what? Nico ignores her and shows up at the Crazy Horse, all “I’ve changed!” But Mindy’s not buying it. She shuts him down.

Later, Emily, Mindy, and Alfie are out to dinner, and Alfie is about to come clean about whatever is going on with him and Mindy. But Mindy panics and stops him. Nico’s return has her spiraling. Alfie suggests they just pretend nothing happened. Mindy, still stunned, kind of just nods along.

Back at Heatherton’s event, Gabriel’s food is a hit, the client is finally happy, and Sylvie is trying to get Antoine to admit that Gabriel is actually good at this. Meanwhile, Luc catches Genevieve sneaking her cheesy hats into the gift bags. Sylvie sees influencers rocking the hats andtells Emily to fire Genevieve, like, right now.

Emily tries to let Genevieve go quietly, but nope. Genevieve goes off, dropping the bomb that everyone knew about Mindy and Alfie, even Julien. Emily is floored. Fast forward to that night, Mindy comes to tell Emily about Nico quitting his family business. Emily is not listening, and she accuses Mindy of hooking up with Alfie and storms out.

The next morning, Gabriel tells Emily he is taking a gig as a chef on Thomas’s yacht. He is leaving Paris. He thanks her, says goodbye, and that’s that. Emily is left standing there, basically watching her life fall apart.

So by the end of Emily in Paris Season 5 Episode 5, friendships are in shambles, nobody trusts anybody, and Emily is staring down another round of ‘what do I do now?’ in Paris.
