HBO Max's breakout medical series The Pitt has won the award for Outstanding Drama Series at the Emmys 2025. Critics were certainly not wrong when they called the Noah Wyle-starring drama the most unconventional medical series on the small screen, and this win proves it.
In addition to the Best Drama series, Wyle also bagged his first-ever Emmy award for The Pitt. This is certainly a historic moment for the actor, who broke out in 1994 with NBC's ER, another medical drama series. While Wyle secured five Emmy nominations for his role as Dr. John Carter, luck did not favor him.
In a full circle moment, Noah Wyle finally bagged his first award at the Emmys 2025, for his character of Dr. Michael “Robby” Robinavitch. Additionally, the ER actor also served as a writer and executive producer on the series.
Noah Wyle was up against fellow actors in drama series, including Sterling K. Brown (Paradise), Pedro Pascal (The Last of Us), Gary Oldman (Slow Horses), and Adam Scott (Severance). However, this long-overdue Emmy win for Wyle feels like the industry finally recognizing the actor's talent and honoring him with an award he deserves.

Emmys 2025: The Pitt bags Best series
While Wyle's first-ever Emmy win is certainly special for the actor, it is equally special for HBO Max's The Pitt. The series bagged the Best Drama Series Award in its freshman season and was up against Andor, The Diplomat, The Last of Us, Paradise, Severance, Slow Horses, and The White Lotus.
Noah Wyle made a heartwarming acceptance speech at the Emmys 2025:
“What a dream this has been. To anybody who’s going on shift tonight or coming off shift tonight, thank you for being in that job. This is for you.''
The Pitt, which will premiere its Season 2 on HBO Max on January 8, 2026, follows an unconventional format of a 15-hour shift at the Pittsburgh Trauma Medical Center's emergency room. The series follows Dr. Robby, the attending physician of the ER, who leads his medical staff through a harrowing shift. The series was hailed as a realistic and authentic portrayal of the profession, which it will also continue in the sophomore season.
The Pitt's Emmys 2025 win proves that the medical series deserves all the praise and appreciation it gained. In addition to Wyle, The Pitt also stars Patrick Ball, Katherine LaNasa, Taylor Dearden, and Fiona Dourif. Season 2 of the series will take place during the 4th of July weekend and will witness another harrowing shift in the ER.
While The Pitt ruled the drama series category at the Emmys 2025, Apple TV+'s freshman series The Studio swept the awards in the comedy category. Seth Rogen's The Studio broke the all-time record for most wins (for a comedy series) in its freshman year, which was earlier held by FX's The Bear.
Additionally, Netflix's breakout psychological drama series Adolescence ruled the limited series category, winning four Emmys, including an acting win for 15-year-old star Owen Cooper.
