Extant Season 2 cast and character guide: Who plays whom in the CBS sci-fi drama?

Extant was one of the more captivating series that ran on CBS from 2014 to 2015. The Halle Berry-starrer science fiction series follows the story of a female astronaut who, upon her return to Earth after a solo mission in outer space for 13 months, learns that she is pregnant. Set in a futuristic world, the series explores themes of modern-day struggles with artificial intelligence and navigating through the unknown.

Extant is executive produced by Steven Spielberg and created by Mickey Fisher. The series ran for two seasons. Along with Berry, Extant Season 2 cast includes Jeffrey Dean Morgan, Goran Visnjic, Pierce Gagnon, and Kiersey Clemons. The series recently landed on Netflix, introducing a whole new audience to the sci-fi series.

Molly Woods, portrayed by Berry, is at the helm of the story as she tries to comprehend the mystery behind her pregnancy, while tackling some unforeseen dangers that will put not only her family but humanity itself in a perilous state. She will team up with a free-spirited cop, J.D. Richter, played by Jeffrey Dean Morgan, to investigate the mystery.

Halle Berry as Molly Woods: Molly is an astronaut who was on a solo 13-month mission in outer space. When she returns to Earth, she discovers that she is pregnant. She sets out on a journey to find the truth and stumbles upon conspiracies that will change humanity forever. The Academy Award-winning actress is known for her many brilliant performances, including her roles in Monster’s Ball, X-Men, Kingsman: The Golden Circle, and Never Let Go.

Goran Visnjic as Dr. John Woods: Dr. John Woods is Molly’s husband, who is an engineer. He creates his android ‘son,’ Ethan, as a prototype for his Humanichs project. Though his idea is sidelined during his funding presentation, he manages to get private funding. Goran Visnjic is also known for his roles in The Boys, Doctor Who, and ER.

Jeffrey Dean Morgan as J.D. Richter: J.D. Richter is an officer who works alongside Molly to uncover the mystery around her pregnancy. He is a reckless bounty hunter who also becomes Molly’s love interest. Jeffrey Dean Morgan has also appeared in other successful ventures such as Grey’s Anatomy, The Walking Dead, and Texas Rising.

Pierce Gagnon as Ethan Woods: Ethan is Molly and Dr. John Woods’ son. He is a humanoid and a prototype created by John as part of the Humanichs project. Ethan is used as part of the demonstration for John to get funding for his project. Ethan often displays erratic behavior, drawing concern from Molly. Other than Extant, Pierce Gagnon has also been part of projects such as Tomorrowland and Twin Peaks.

Grace Gummer as Julie Gelineau: Julie is Dr. John’s colleague on the Humanichs project. She works with John to get funding for their project from the Yasumoto Corporation. Grace Gummer has also been part of other projects including American Horror Story, Mr. Robot, and Dr. Death.

Kiersey Clemons as Lucy: Lucy is a highly advanced robot created as part of the Humanichs project. Even though she is Ethan’s sister, she was made to be a soldier to fight the hybrids. Kiersey Clemons has appeared in New Girl, The Flash, and For Worse.
