We are all set to return to Wakanda in Eyes of Wakanda, the animated series, releasing on August 6, 2025. However, one thing about the upcoming series might sound different: the soundtrack. Ludwig Göransson, the composer who worked on the music for Black Panther and its sequel, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, is not returning for Eyes of Wakanda.
Instead, the music for the animated series will be scored by Hesham Nazih, who, if you remember, worked on the background score of Moon Knight, which was considered by fans as one of the show's highlights. Nazih's hiring has fans hopeful for an extraordinary score for Eyes of Wakanda.
Who is Hesham Nazih, the composer of Eyes of Wakanda?
Hesham Nazih is a prolific music composer in the Egyptian film industry, who made his mark with the 1998 Egyptian movie Hysteria. Since then, the composer has provided musical scores for countless Egyptian movies that have been acclaimed. However, the composer garnered international fame in 2022 by scoring the Disney+ Marvel series Moon Knight.
His work in the show was widely appreciated by people for his fusion work. Nazih used his experience in the Egyptian film industry and incorporated some musical motifs from there in the orchestral score of Moon Knight. While replacing Göransson is an uphill task, if Marvel wanted to go with a different route for Eyes of Wakanda, choosing someone like Nazih could be a prudent decision.
What is Eyes of Wakanda about?
Consisting of four episodes, the series will follow the Wakandan spies, called "War Dogs" or "Hatut Zeraze", on missions across the world to recover stolen Vibranium. Moreover, the show is not set in the present, and some stories might be set in the past. Thus, the series will expand upon the mysterious Wakandan lore in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
The introduction scene of 2018's Black Panther hinted at the mysterious lore, but the movie and the rest of the MCU did not expand upon that. Eyes of Wakanda has a chance to give fans a glimpse into Wakanda's rich history. One of the show's writers, Marc Bernardin, hyped up the upcoming animated series in an interview with SuperHeroHype:
“The experience was illuminating, in a lot of ways. It was a pandemic gig, so everybody was just on a Zoom. I saw lots of people’s heads, and I had no idea how tall or short anybody was. But, the thing that I will always remember about that is the day that Ryan Coogler popped up on the Zoom, and we didn’t know Ryan Coogler was going to be there that day. I think they had a down day on Black Panther 2, which he was in the middle of shooting, and he just popped in and wanted to talk about the show."
Furthermore, the series, unlike the other Disney+ Marvel animated shows, is canon to the MCU. Thus, the series will directly tie into the history of Wakanda in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. This was confirmed by Marvel's head of TV, streaming, and animation, Brad Winderbaum, during his July 2024 appearance in The Official Marvel Podcast:
"Eyes Of Wakanda, more than any other show we're doing in animation, ties in the MCU... It's both about the history of Wakanda, but it also expands into the greater MCU at different time periods. So if you're a fan of the movies, I think this show is going to be a real treat."
