Eyes of Wakanda, the animated Marvel show, is approximately two and a half months away from release. It will follow different agents of Wakanda's Hatut Zaraze/War Dogs in different eras across Marvel's history. Consisting of four episodes, the series will be released on Disney+ on August 6, 2025. The association with the Black Panther franchise should help this show gain viewers.

Directed by Todd Harris, the show boasts of actors like Patricia Belcher, Cress Williams, Jona Xiao, and Winnie Harlow as a part of its voice cast. Now, one of Eyes of Wakanda's writers, Marc Bernardin, hyped up the animated show in an interview with SuperHeroHype before he went on to host Double Take's new episode.

What did Eyes of Wakanda's Marc Bernardin say?

As stated before, the Eyes of Wakanda writer was explicitly asked about the mysterious animated show by SuperHeroHype in an interview. Hyping up the four-episode animated series, Bernardin said:

"The experience was illuminating, in a lot of ways. It was a pandemic gig, so everybody was just on a Zoom...But, the thing that I will always remember about that is the day that Ryan Coogler popped up on the Zoom, and we didn’t know Ryan Coogler was going to be there that day. I think they had a down day on Black Panther 2, which he was in the middle of shooting, and he just popped in and wanted to talk about the show."

He continued:

"To get to talk to Ryan about Wakanda, Ryan about the War Dogs, and Ryan about the world as he saw it through the prism of Wakanda — that was phenomenal. To pitch some things to him, and all of us did who were in that room, for him to say, ‘Oh, that’s dope, I love that, we’re going to do that.’ Like, no! No! I had to call my mom and tell her. Like, ‘Do you know what happened to me today?’ ‘Did you meet Denzel Washington?’ ‘No! But I was on a Zoom with Ryan Coogler!’"

Then, the writer went on to reveal Ryan Coogler's thoughts on Eyes of Wakanda:

"I think that Ryan very much digs the show. And I think if you like what Ryan has done with Wakanda, if you like what Ryan has done with the Black Panther movies, then it should sort of fit hand in glove. The mesh should hold. I think you’ll dig it. And I don’t think you’ll expect what it is. But, once you get it, I think you’ll have a good time."

These comments have fans hopeful for an acclaimed animated Marvel show in the vein of X-Men '97 Season 1.

What is Eyes of Wakanda about?

The plot of the animated series will follow the War Dogs/Hatut Zaraze across Wakanda's history. If that name sounds familiar, that's because Lupita Nyong'o's character, Nakia, is one of the War Dogs in the Black Panther movies. In a 2018 Collider interview, Nyong'o described the Hatut Zaraze as the Wakandan CIA:

"I can say that Nakia, when we meet her, is a War Dog which means she's one of Wakanda’s CIA members. Her job is to spy around the world and report back to Wakanda to keep Wakanda safe and keep Wakanda informed."

Brad Winderbaum, Marvel Animation Head, in a January 2025 interview with Collider, reiterated the CIA comparison:

"They often have to venture out to regain stolen Vibranium, but they also have to keep secrets well-hidden so that Wakanda can ward off invaders and stay safe. The Hatut Zaraze are challenged in different ways to stay loyal to Wakanda as they discover the rest of the world around them."

Is Eyes of Wakanda connected to the MCU?

This series occupies a unique position because, unlike X-Men '97 Season 1 and What If...?, Eyes of Wakanda is set in the MCU as we have mostly known it. Brad Winderbaum confirmed it on The Official Marvel Podcast:

"Eyes Of Wakanda, more than any other show we're doing in animation, ties in the MCU... It's both about the history of Wakanda, but it also expands into the greater MCU at different time periods. So if you're a fan of the movies, I think this show is going to be a real treat."

For now, we don't know the release strategy for Eyes of Wakanda remains unknown. Considering that the series is four episodes long, it won't be surprising if Marvel follows a unique release strategy for this series when it releases this August.
