As per the outlet, Todd Howard has confirmed that the series will affect the forthcoming post-apocalyptic game. He also revealed the time and space that the game will take place in, as he states:

"In short, yes. Fallout 5 will be existing in a world where the stories and events of the show happened or are happening... We are taking that into account."

Upon hearing this statement, fans are ruminating and speculating over where exactly the game could fit into the timeline, as well as in the context of the series. Howard did not precisely mention which exact timeline and events the game will be set in.

However, we can only figure it out only when the game launches some years from now. There has been no official confirmation about the release date of the Fallout game, and it is in process now. But going by Todd Howard's comment, it is clear that the makers do have a distinct plan to blend in both the worlds of the game and series.

In fact, when both the threads from the game and the series are tied together, it makes the storytelling of the post-apocalyptic world consistent, sustained, and in sync, without any form of disconnect.

The video game has been in existence since 1997. These are set in America during the aftermath of a nuclear war. The timeline of the game spans across centuries as well, showcasing each civilization's journey towards survival. The latest season of the game, Fallout 4, chronicles the year 2287.

In the series, though, the timeline is 2296. The Prime Video show explores the plot two centuries post-nuclear war. A woman from Vault 33, Lucy MacLean's life gets uprooted, and she is pushed to face the crooked world of the Wasteland. In her pursuit of truth, she realizes the gritty reality of the Vault as well as about her father.

Its synopsis, as per Rotten Tomatoes, goes as follows:

Fallout is the story of haves and have-nots in a world in which there’s almost nothing left to have. Two-hundred years after the apocalypse, the gentle denizens of luxury fallout shelters are forced to return to the irradiated hellscape their ancestors left behind—and are shocked to discover an incredibly complex, gleefully weird, and highly violent universe waiting for them.

The first season came out in 2024. The first episode of the newest season, Season 2, aired on December 16, 2025. The show has garnered strong, positive critical acclaim, having scored a whopping 95% on Rotten Tomatoes. It also scored an 8.3/10 on IMDb.
