Grace Van Patten opens up about how the confrontation scene in The Twisted Tale of Amanda Knox weighed heavily on her
The Twisted Tale of Amanda Knox highlights the brutal murder of Meredith Kercher, who was found dead in her bathroom. This gruesome murder also affected her roommate, Amanda Knox, an American student who was in Italy for a semester abroad, but found herself a prime suspect in the murder.
Years after her conviction was found to be wrongful, Amanda went face-to-face with her prosecutor, Giuliano Mignini, in Italy. While there were a lot of strong emotions at first, Knox was able to form a friendship with Mignini. However, the initial confrontation scene was quite intense, and Van Patten felt the intensity while filming the scene as well.
Speaking about the scene with Variety, she said,
"I felt fearful in a lot of ways, but very eager to tell that part of the story. It was this contrasting mix of pressure learning all that Italian for it and getting the correct emotions across."

Grace Van Patten mentioned how her co-actor, Francesco Acquaroli (who plays Giuliano Mignini), helped her get through the scene. She reflected that while the scene was "a monster" to shoot, the entire cast felt relieved when it was done.
"Francesco Acquaroli is so powerful and present as an actor that it just felt like it flowed in the right way. We shot that one scene in two or three days. It was a monster that we all knew to tackle at the end of the shoot. But when it was over, we were all happy and relieved that we did it in a way that felt authentic and truthful to Amanda’s story."
Speaking about the energy on set, Van Patten mentioned that Amanda Knox was on set during the shoot of The Twisted Tale of Amanda Knox. Van Patten shared that it was very intense shooting the scenes with Amanda on set as they were narrating the most difficult chapter of a woman's life in front of her eyes.
However, she also said that there was a sense of comfort in knowing that Amanda was always available to answer any questions that Grace Van Patten might have to portray the character as authentically as possible.
All eight episodes of The Twisted Tale of Amanda Knox are available to stream on Hulu.
