Following a long hiatus, Lennie James opens up about what lies ahead for his The Walking Dead character; says "I haven't heard anything"

While AMC's post-apocalyptic horror series The Walking Dead concluded with Season 11 in 2022, the franchise is expanding with new spin-off series, based on different characters of the parent show.

While many beloved characters have returned to the spin-offs in different capacities, one fan-favorite character has remained absent since 2023, Morgan Jones (Lennie James).

Lennie James debuted in TWD as Morgan Jones and also appeared in the spin-off series Fear the Walking Dead Seasons 4-8. While the character is still alive in the universe, he has not appeared in the ongoing spin-offs, The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon and The Walking Dead: Dead City.

While fans await Lennie James' return to the TWD universe as Morgan, the actor's recent comment suggests that the makers have no plan to bring his character back anytime soon.

Lennie James will likely not appear in the ongoing The Walking Dead spin-offs

While Lennie James' Morgan Jones is one of the surviving characters in the TWD universe, he has largely not appeared in any of the spin-offs after Fear the Walking Dead.

Considering the expanding universe of the franchise, many characters like Maggie, Daryl Dixon, and Negan have returned. It is unusual for a character like Morgan Jones not to appear in any ongoing spin-offs.

While fans were expecting to see Lennie James reprise his character in the upcoming seasons of Daryl Dixon or Dead City, his latest comments with ScreenRant hint that Morgan Jones will not return anytime soon:

''I haven't heard anything. That's the truth of the situation. But also, the truth of the situation is, if I had heard anything, I wouldn't tell you. But, in all honesty, I haven't heard anything. I do get asked that question on a regular basis, but as things stand, as of today, I've heard nothing.''

Lennie James's Morgan Jones can still return with this Scott M. Gimple spin-off series

While the ongoing spin-offs might not feature Morgan's return, there is still another TWD spin-off that can cast Lennie James again.

Recently, creator Scott M. Gimple expressed his desire to bring back Tales of the Walking Dead, which is the perfect opportunity for Lennie Jones to reprise his character.

This 2022 anthology series featured many dead and surviving characters from the franchise in different episodes and was also renewed for a sequel series.

Expressing his desire to return with the anthology series, Gimple said with The Direct:

''I really want to see more of the characters from the past and I know the audience does too. Or things that were referred to in the past that we never saw. So, I'm determined to have it come back and and it's a very easy show to come back. There's no... you know, we didn't end on a cliffhanger. So I think it's a possibility."

While it is difficult to introduce Morgan Jones in the ongoing storylines of Daryl Dixon and Dead City, Tales of the Walking Dead is the perfect opportunity to feature his character again.

Not only will fans get to see a beloved character return, but the anthology series can also feature his origin story and expand on the character's lore in the franchise.
