Foundation Season 3 is out on Apple TV+, and as seen in the premiere, the story takes a big leap forward in time, about 152 years after Season 2 ended. A lot has changed in the galaxy.
The Foundation, which started as a small group trying to preserve knowledge, has now grown powerful and controls many planets. On the other side, the Galactic Empire, once strong and proud, is now falling apart.
The third chapter features Demerzel (played by Laura Birn), a powerful and mysterious android who has lived for thousands of years. She serves as the right hand of the Emperor and has been helping lead the Galaxy for generations.
But even though she’s been extremely loyal to the Empire for a long time, Season 3 reveals that her true loyalty is not as simple as it once seemed. And after watching Foundation Season 3, Episode 4, fans are curious to know about her true allegiance.
As seen in the latest episode, Demerzel admits to something shocking: she was responsible for the Star Bridge bombing on the planet Trantor. Up until now, people believed the attack was done by rebels from Anacreon and Thespis.
But Demerzel reveals that she secretly gave those groups the bombs over 300 years ago. That attack killed millions and started a massive war between the Empire and the Foundation.
So, what are fans saying now? Keep reading below!
Fans discuss the shocking revelation about Demerzel in Foundation Season 3, Episode 4

After it has been revealed that Demerzel is the one behind the Star Bridge bombing, fans are now speculating about her true allegiance in a Reddit post. Many believe that could eventually turn against the Genetic Dynasty and be the one to bring down the Cleons. This would be a massive twist, but the clues are there.
A fan wrote:
"I think it all but confirms Dermezel is going to end the Cleons. Previously, it teased that a zero law existed deep in some robot's programming that prioritized humanity itself over all other laws."
Another fan who was startled by the truth in Foundation Season 3 wrote:
"I’m not ready to see that actually. After seeing the face ‘reveal’ it’s the least expected reveal for me lol"
Another user named @andrew_nenakhov wrote:
"This murderbod can not be trusted. Cleons should destroy it for the good of the galaxy."
User named damiana_nervousa wrote:
"I think her old self would destroy her new self because of how Cleon I altered her programming to prioritize Empire over humanity, not because of an inner evolution..."
It could also be possible that Demerzel is split internally: one version of her still follows Cleon I’s programming to protect the Empire, while the other, her older, original self, wants to protect all of humanity.
A Foundation Season 3 fan describes this as a battle between "Counselor Demerzel" and "General Demerzel," or old code versus new code. Some even question if she’s still one being, or if her soul has fractured over centuries of conflict and reprogramming.
One fan even speculated that Hari intentionally gave the Prime Radiant to Demerzel, knowing she was smart and logical enough to understand it, and that once she did, she’d realize the Empire had to fall. This could be the key to why she’s now questioning everything and feeling drawn toward religious figures or moral guidance.
Fans believe all these pieces are leading to a dramatic finale of Foundation Season 3, possibly where Demerzel turns on the palace and destroys the Empire herself. This would be the ultimate example of her Zero Law programming winning over Cleon’s control.
