Fox's animated sitcom The Great North wrapped up its Season 5 on September 14, 2025. On October 3, 2025, Deadline reported that the network announced that the fan-favorite animated sitcom will not be returning for a Season 6.

When Fox announced its 2025-2026 lineup in May, The Great North was not included in the list, giving an early hint of the show's future. However, the official confirmation of the cancellation of the beloved series was shared recently. Molyneux sisters and Minty Lewis are the creators of the beloved animated series.

More on this in our story.

Fox cancels The Great North post-Season 5

The Great North revolves around the Tobin family who live in a town called Lone Moose, in Alaska. The show is about Beef Tobin, the patriarch of the family, trying to raise his four children alone. The main challenge he faces is raising his daughter, Judy, whose dreams and talents take her out of the family's comfortable nest and into a different world when she goes out of the town.

The show is about the love the family shares between them, with their father sometimes becoming overbearing. Other than Beef and Tobin, the family members include Wolf Tobin, the oldest son of Beef and his wife, Honeybee. The family also includes two more sons- Ham and Moon Tobin. The voice cast of The Great North is star-studded and includes big Hollywood names such as Nick Offerman, Jenny Slate, Will Forte, Paul Rust, Dulcé Sloan, and Aparna Nancherla.

The news of the cancellation comes two weeks after Season 5 aired its final episode. As per Deadline, the President of Fox Television Network, Michael Thorn, in his statement, thanked the cast and creators of the show for creating a funny and humorous animated series. He stated:

"We’re so grateful for everything Wendy, Lizzie, Loren and the amazing cast and crew put into The Great North. It’s difficult to say goodbye, but we’re thankful for the five hilarious seasons The Great North brought to the iconic Animation Domination lineup."

As per Deadline, Fox's mega deal with Disney studios in April resulted in four season renewals of popular animated series such as Family Guy, American Dad!, The Simpsons, and Bob's Burgers. Among all these renewal news and Fox's own animated series, Grimsburg and Krapopolis being renewed, The Great North was not included, hinting at its cancellation, early on.

The animated series had been known for its narrative about the Tobins' sometimes weird but always loving family unit. The episodes depicted the various challenges the individuals of the Tobin family encountered, and also how they all supported each other in their issues shown in the episode.

The show comes from the Molyneux sisters, who have written another popular animated series, Bob's Burgers, and have also served as the EP on it. But that's not the only connection the Fox animated series has with Bob's Burgers, as Loren Bouchard, the creator of the latter, also serves as the EP for the cancelled Fox animated series.
