Is Ice T still on Law & Order: SVU? Here’s possibly why he wasn’t seen in Episode 2

The new season of Law & Order: SVU brought the SVU team back on screen, investigating new crimes and catching more heinous criminals. The show brought back Mariska Hargitay's Captain Olivia Benson with her team and the staple members of it, which also includes Ice T, who plays the fan favorite character of Sergeant Odafin 'Fin' Tutuola.

T's character has been a part of the show since Season 2 of Law & Order: SVU, and as per NBC, he is still a big part of the show. However, many viewers might have found it strange as Sgt. Fin Tutuola did not appear in the recent episode of Season 27 of the procedural series. After the attack on the sergeant in the premiere episode of Season 27, NBC revealed that Ice-T's character was probably in recovery and would join the SVU team in the next episode.

Is Ice T still on Law & Order: SVU? Here’s possibly why he wasn’t seen in Episode 2

Rapper Ice-T has been part of the procedural series since the year 2000. He joined Law & Order: SVU in the premiere episode of Season 2. Over the years, T's character Fin has become one of the popular characters in the series. He is known for his sarcastic and deadpan humor and has grown to like and trust his SVU team members.

T has appeared in almost 456 episodes in the crime procedural series. Therefore, his absence in Episode 2 of Season 27 might have raised numerous questions. In the premiere episode of the new season, Fin was seen leaving for home after attending Captain Cragen's memorial service, when he noticed a woman being attacked.

As he tried to help the woman and retrieve his gun to help her, he realised he had been fooled by the two robbers. They beat him up, severely injuring the Sgt., and also stole his gun and ran away. He is later seen recovering in the hospital while also asking his SVU members to bring his gun back without letting Captain Benson know. However, the news still reaches Benson.

Furthermore, as per NBC, due to his recovery, he was absent from the recent episode of the popular crime series and will be back in the upcoming episodes.

Law & Order: SVU - Ice T will be back in episode 3

NBC revealed that Ice-T was absent for just one episode of Law & Order: SVU Season 27, and will be joining the SVU team in the upcoming Episode 3, next Thursday, on October 9, 2025.

Furthermore, in an Instagram post earlier this year, Ice-T also revealed that he was not thinking of retiring any time soon. The caption of the Instagram post reads:

"RETIRE??? I'm lucky enough to Act and do Music…. As an Artist, those are jobs you simply NEVER want to stop doing.. Ever 💎."

As per Rotten Tomatoes, in the next episode of Season 27, Fin and the SVU team members will investigate a case that deals with an elaborate plan of destroying DNA evidence in a rape case.
