Almost 30 years after Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone was released, showcasing the wizarding world of J.K. Rowling, the franchise is gearing up for its most daring reinvention.

HBO's Harry Potter TV series is structured as a long-form, seven-season adaptation of the original novels. Unlike the films, the show aims to bring back more detailed subplots, extended character arcs, and dig deeper into the magical world Rowling created. Now that production is under way the series is set to be a "faithful adaptation," as actor Warwick Davis said in a recent interview.

The project merges novel casting with certain creative constants from the movies. Aside from the upcoming TV series, the franchise has also had several adaptations featuring familiar faces from the movies or other adaptations.

Luke Youngblood

Luke Youngblood played the role of Lee Jordan, a Gryffindor student and Quidditch commentator in Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone and Chamber of Secrets. Both films were released in 2001 and 2002, respectively, and over two decades later, he returned to the franchise as the voice of Ravenclaw student Everett Clopton in the open-world game Hogwarts Legacy (2023).

Tom Felton

Tom Felton played Draco Malfoy in the Harry Potter films. Felton is now set to reprise his role in the Broadway production of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, 19 years after Deathly Hallows. His return marks the first time a film actor who portrayed a character in the films plays the same character in another prominent Harry Potter adaptation.

Jamie Campbell Bower

The dark wizard first appeared in the movie series as a teenage Gellert Grindelwald in Deathly Hallows - Part I in 2010. Originally introduced as a teenage Gellert Grindelwald and later reprising the role in flashbacks in Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald, bridging the original saga with its prequel series.

Hebe Beardsall

Hebe Beardsall, who took up the role twice, first in The Deathly Hallows – Part 2 (2011) as Ariana Dumbledore and then in Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald.

Warwick Davis

Warwick Davis played two characters, Professor Filius Flitwick and the Goblin Griphook, in the original film series. For HBO’s adaptation of the television series, Davis reprises his role as Flitwick, serving as a rare direct connection from the films to the new series, as well as giving the character additional development in long-form television.

Arabella Stanton

Arabella Stanton plays Hermione Granger in the new TV series. However, the actor was also the voice of Hermione Granger in the audiobooks of The Full-Cast Audio Editions. This makes her the first actress to play the character in two major formats at the same time.
