What happened in Gen V Season 2 episode 4?
Jordan defies the rules of God U and Vought by revealing Andre's death. Students are reminded that disobedience can have lethal consequences, further creating pressure on Marie, who is already finding out the truth about Project Odessa.
Cate suffers a brain injury and loses her powers, leading Sam to come out of Cate's control. Jordan takes responsibility for Cate's injury, suggesting that she is now willing to be honest at personal risk. With the group’s actions exposed and Marie’s connection to Project Odessa revealed, Cipher gains leverage over the students. He tightens his control over them and manipulates allegiances, testing their loyalty.
Emma takes Harper's help to gain control over her powers, and this builds their friendship and trust in each other, with Emma successfully altering her size without vomiting. Vought had predicted that Marie and Jordan would fight. They refuse to do so and rather kiss in front of the audience, promoting love over violence. This shows they are willing to challenge the PR spectacle by God U showcasing an act of defiance.
Despite their resistance, Cipher demonstrates his powers by manipulating Jordan’s mind from afar. He compels Jordan to attack Marie while leaving the latter with no choice but to fight back. This scene becomes significant, portraying Cipher's control and precision, and cementing him as a formidable antagonist.
The truth about Cipher's identity comes out in Gen V season 2 episode 4

Marie confirms that Cipher's blood does not contain Compound V, which doesn't make sense, keeping in mind his abilities. Some possibilities could be that he is naturally endowed with superhuman abilities and doesn't need the compound, or he is controlled by someone else altogether.
Marie was unable to decode the complete truth, which further adds tension and mystery in the episode. All Cipher wanted was to keep Vought's public narrative intact, even if the students were resisting. Marie was a pure blooded being. Which means her powers were natural and unmodified, giving her a unique edge that could rival even Homelander’s formidable strength. This makes her an important figure in Project Odessa and God U's secret experiment.
Firecracker, Cate, and Justine are tasked with spreading statements painting trans people as “dangerous,” even though Jordan isn’t trans, to shift public attention and sow fear. Moreover, even Jordon and Marie were posed against each other by God U PR team, with Marie being the Good one and Jordan the bad one. If Marie wins, this would reinforce Vought's narrative dismissing the protest in Gen V.
