Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage Season 2 Episode 1 recap:
Here are some of the major events in Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage Season 2, Episode 1:
- Georgie and Reuben run into problems
The season 1 finale ended on a more shocking note as Ruben decides to help Georgie buy the auto store and become a co-owner. Now that they are owners, fans expected things to be smooth for the owners, and considering Georgie becomes a successful businessman in The Big Bang Theory. However, like every other first step, Georgie's first day as the owner of a business is a bit rough.
It turns out that he and Ruben can't see eye-to-eye on how to run the business. Despite taking a lot of debt for this business, Georgie and Ruben have a completely different outlook on how to run the business. Ruben, who is a bit older, wants to focus on running the business at hand, incurring very few expenses, while Georgie, who is younger, is already planning to expand the business.
Georgie wants to buy a computer to digitize business operations, while Ruben wants things to run the way they are for now, to pay off the debt. As they are the only employees there, things are at an impasse. Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage Season 2 showrunner Steve Holland was interviewed after the release of the episode, in which he addressed Georgie's "arrogant" behavior towards his business partner:
"I don’t know if he’s arrogant towards Ruben, but he is arrogant in his own abilities and he’s very ambitious. He’s young enough that his jump first and look later [attitude] has always worked out well, so he hasn’t gotten the smackdown that maybe at some point he’s gonna need in life. He just thinks everything always works out for him so he’s arrogant in the way that he assumes his way is right."
The Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage Season 2 showrunner further addressed the source of tension between the business partners in the same interview. According to him, Ruben has been working in the store even before Georgie, and knows the business more than his business partner.
"Ruben has obviously been there a lot longer and knows the business more. He thinks he should be heard, and Georgie is young and brash and full of ideas. Ruben is a little bit older and more mature. He doesn’t want to take stupid chances."
- Meanwhile, Jim adjusts to retired life
Jim, on the other hand, is initially excited about the retirement after decades of running the business. But soon gets bored as there's nothing to do. He tries to fix the Mustang car, and as he does so, Mandy asks her father to guide Georgie. Jim visits the store and says that both Georgie and Ruben are right. He gives them the idea to lease a computer system.
Jim further suggests hiring an accountant to get the tax benefits of the leased computer system.
- Ruben and Georgie settle the argument
While Ruben and Georgie agree that leasing a computer system is a good idea, they come to another impasse: the expense of hiring an accountant. Georgie is in favor of hiring an accountant, while Ruben isn't. Thus, the two settle this argument by racing across the town. Georgie wins the race, but at the cost of developing blisters on his feet becuase of the wrong type of footwear.
