Netflix has dropped the eagerly awaited trailer for Season 3 of Squid Game as part of its Tudum 2025 global fan festival. This is the final season of the internationally acclaimed survival series. It will be available for global streaming, June 27, 2025, onwards on Netflix.

The story continues after the Season 2 cliffhanger

Season 3 picks up exactly where the cliffhanger ending of the previous season left off. Gi-hun's strategy to challenge the game administrators did not turn out as planned, with consequences for the people he cares about. In the preview, it is clear that among other survivors, he was invited back into the life-threatening competition, this time with even more control.

One of the emotional trajectories follows through on the consequences of the hanging of Player 290 (Park-bae), who was allied with Gi-hun. His fate appears to have long-term implications for Gi-hun, setting the tone for the individual and psychological struggles that drive the new season.

A darker turn with deadlier games in Season 3

The trailer's tone suggests even more intense and brutal versions of the children’s games seen in previous seasons. The members are portrayed to be under great psychological stress and close scrutiny, implying that the level of threat and manipulation has heightened.

No games are referred to in the trailer, but what can be seen implies greater stakes and possible new alliances designed to shatter rivals. Submission rather than survival is now more the theme of the competition.

The Front Man returns in Season 3

The enigmatic Front Man, played by Lee Byung-hun, is visible in the Season 3 trailers. His presence suggests an escalating tension between him and Gi-hun, as both seem to be headed on a collision course. Their dynamic, formerly behind veils of control, now comes to the forefront.

The trailer teases that fans may finally learn more about the Front Man's motivations and how his position in the game hierarchy evolves. His story is reported to resonate with that of Gi-hun, completing the overarching themes of ethics and power.

Themes of control and resistance in Squid Game Season 3

In the course of the trailer, Gi-hun appears to be struggling with anger and guilt, along with curiosity to know about—or perhaps destroy—the machinery that guided him through recurring cycles of brutality. The season promises additional exploration of the machinery of the Squid Games.

The series still heavily borrows from commentary on exploitation, surveillance, and social despondency. Season 3 promises to delve into survival and resistance, albeit at a price.

Last season and the finale arc

Season 3 will conclude the series. It will be expected to close up Gi-hun's storyline as well as provide answers to some of the last questions about the origin and purpose of the deadly game. Whether he escapes again or chooses to end the game once and for all remains to be seen.

The trailer guarantees one thing in its lead-up to it: Gi-hun's return for survival is personal this time.
