Before Marvelous Mrs. Maisel brought all the accolades for Amy Sherman-Palladino for its unique storyline, she had already made a name for herself with Gilmore Girls. It is a breeze of nostalgia for every young adult in the 2000s, filled with unlimited coffee, fun banter, and endless pop culture references.

Gilmore Girls follows the journey of a single mother, Lorelai Gilmore (Lauren Graham), and her academically brilliant teenage daughter, Rory (Alexis Bledel). They live in Star Hollows, Connecticut, a fictional town riddled with eccentric people, lovable goofballs, and side characters that deserve their own spin-off series.

But that just ended up becoming a distant dream. These side characters were robbed of the screen time they deserved, let alone a spin-off series. They had a scene here, a dialogue there, and soon they disappeared into the fog of the town square and vanished forever. Today, let's honor these unsung heroes who helped make Gilmore Girls the classic hit that it is today.

8 Gilmore Girls side characters who deserved way more screen time

What makes a movie or a TV show great? The story and the way the characters bring life to the story. Gilmore Girls was one of the best shows of its time, and every character helped Lorelai and Rory make it the memorable series it is known for today.

Some characters had a small airtime but left a huge impact on the story. These characters truly deserved more screen time, but unfortunately weren't given their due. But that doesn't mean they have to get lost in oblivion. Today, let's recognize these gems and give them their due credit.

8) Bootsy

Bootsy, played by the talented Brian Tarantina, was a grumpy newspaper stand owner who hated children and Kirk, and no one questioned him for the latter. He always gave off 'I know something' energy and seemed like a conspiracy theorist looking for a podcast.

He was seen occasionally and would always be either insulting someone or muttering something about the government. And this is why fans needed more of him. What if he did know some dark stuff about Star Hollow's past?

7) Dave Rygalski

Dave, played by Adam Brody, was Lane's first boyfriend. He was every teenager's dream boyfriend; he was sweet, respectful, smart, and ready to do anything to make her happy. If that's not enough, then here is some more. He played the guitar and had the magical powers to pacify Mrs. Kim.

Dave was the opposite of Zack, but since people can't have nice things, sadly had to be written off the show because Adam Brody had to play Seth Cohen on The O.C. Fans haven't forgiven Brody and the Gilmore Girls team for this betrayal.

6) Tanna Schrick

Tanna Schrick was Rory's Yale awkward roommate and the human embodiment of Google. She was a resident STEM expert and looked like she was raised in a library. She appeared on Gilmore Girls three times before becoming background noise.

She had the potential to become a major supporting character, but it was never tapped. She was the kind of person who would have become a tech billionaire after graduation, a kind of friend that made sense next to the academically brilliant Rory, but instead, fans got more of Marty.

5) Mrs. Kim

Mrs. Kim was Lane's strict mom. She was a typical asian mom who thought being strict with your kid would make them achieve great things, particularly a medical degree. She had a kind of personality that could make the mute talk, but she was much more than that.

She was a protective and deeply caring mother who would do anything to help her child excel. When she wasn't being Lane's mom, she sold furniture, led a Seventh-Day Adventist army, and could make rocks apologize. It would have been nice to know more about her background. Was she a mom by day and a secret agent by night? Was she secretly a member of the Yakuza? No one will ever know.

4) Brad Langford

The one line that describes Brad Langford best is that he was Michael Cera before Michael Cera was a thing. He was the nervous blonde kid at Chilton Preparatory School who looked like he was constantly wondering how he got into a school full of Robespierres and Lincolns.

Things finally looked up for him when he left for Broadway to appear in Into the Woods, but he came back more nervous than ever. His awkwardness made him a likable character and a treat to watch every time he appeared on screen. A spin-off series where he panics every five seconds while surviving Ivy League admissions would have been nice.

3) Gypsy

Gypsy was everything: a car mechanic, judge of men, and possibly immortal. Her dry sarcasm and innate itch to drop truth bombs made her a refreshing breeze of reality in an otherwise bubbly Star Hollow. But that's all fans knew about Gypsy, and they wanted more.

Who was Gypsy? A gypsy? A punk roadie? A vampire? A secret admirer of Lorelai (the longing stares were proof). There was so much to explore here that was left hanging.

2) Lane's bandmates (not Zack)

Lane's bandmates, Brian and Gil, were the cherry on top of Gilmore Girls, a cherry that was eaten way quicker than it should have been. Brian was a nice sweater-clad bassist with high emotional intelligence who looked like he belonged in a DnD club.

Gil, played by the iconic Sebastian Bach, was a 40-something rockstar who loved yelling "DUDE" after every sentence. He put the Gil in Gilmore Girls. Their struggles of being in an indie band and trying to make it big while maintaining a close relationship could have added an edge to the series. Brian and Gil could have had a great arc, but instead, fans were forced to see Zack.

1) Morey Dell

Have you ever met someone and instantly played music in your head? Gilmore Girls introduced such a character. If every person had background music in real life, Morey Dell would have saxophones play for him all day. That's because he was cool, charming, and criminally understated.

He was a soft-spoken, mysterious man who looked like would someday reveal that he was the fifth Beatle. Morey was married to Babette and was the calm to her chaos. He spoke very little, and yet his silence screamed depth, and that's why it was important to uncover the reason behind his zen. How was he so calm while being married to the loudest woman in Star Hollow?

The thing that made Gilmore Girls a hit was its attention to detail. The show didn't just focus on the main characters; the value of the story was added by focusing on supporting characters.

Every side character contributed greatly to the story; some left such an impact that articles are being written on whether they should have had more airtime.
