Tracker fans, get ready, because showrunner Elwood Reid has promised us Jensen Ackles fans by saying:

"Jensen addicts are gonna get a double dose of him this season."

And so with this, we have confirmation that Jensen Ackles does in fact make a return as Russell Shaw in Season 3. That's right, Ackles won't just pop in briefly; he'll be playing a much bigger role in the Shaw family drama.

Season 3 releases on October 19, with Colter Shaw's life about to get even messier. And if you thought last season's finale was wild, then this time, the stakes are higher and far more personal.

A family mystery that refuses to stay buried

Season 2 of Tracker ended with a punch. In the final scenes, Colter learned that Otto Waldron was a man tied to his family's past and pushed his father Ashton off a cliff. The twist? Otto admitted Colter's own mother, Mary, had asked him to do it.

That reveal shattered everything Colter thought he knew, especially after years of believing his brother Russell was to blame.

For Season 3, Reid says the drama won't let up. Speaking to Collider, he explained:

"We pose several questions in the season opener that will reverberate throughout the season."

It's not just about who killed Ashton, but why his life spiraled and what drove Mary to such an extreme decision. These answers won't come easily, and they'll bring Colter face to face with the lies he's lived with for years.

While the show has debated using flashbacks to explore the past, Reid suggests the truth will still find its way in impactful ways. The Shaw family's history is tangled with "dark forces" that might still be a threat in the present day, making Russell's return an important piece of the puzzle.

Why Jensen Ackles’ Russell matters more than ever for Tracker Season 3

It's no secret that Jensen Ackles has a dedicated following from his days in Supernatural. His first appearance in Tracker instantly made Russell a fan favorite, but his screen time was limited. That changes this season. Reid promises that Jensen addicts are gonna love him this season.

For Reid, writing for Ackles is a joy, especially when he shares scenes with Justin Hartley's Colter.

"Whenever he and Justin are on the screen it just works...another perspective on their childhood"

This dynamic between the two of them is crucial to understanding Colter's choices. This brotherly dynamic is the emotional key to unlocking the family's secrets, and we're gonna be fed with this in Season 3.

Russell's version of events could change how Colter sees his parents, his past, and even himself. Given how much bad blood their mother's actions caused between the brothers, having Russell back in the mix will make the emotional stakes skyrocket.

And Reid isn't hiding his enthusiasm for keeping Ackles around, cheekily hinting, "Spin-off."

Season 3 of Tracker isn't just promising action, it's about to deliver deep family drama, dangerous secrets, and a heavy dose of Jensen Ackles. With Russell Shaw stepping into a bigger spotlight, fans can expect answers, confrontations, and plenty of heart-pounding moments.

When Tracker returns on October 19, the Shaw brothers' complicated bond might be the thing that finally unravels (or saves) their family.
