Grantchester Season 10 episode 7 sees Mrs. C and Cathy getting ready to open their clothing boutique. But their plans get derailed when the store becomes a murder scene. The shocking murder of the photographer takes the centerstage as Geordie and Alphy face their own personal shortcomings.
Stage is set for the store opening in Grantchester Season 10 episode 7
Grantchester is setting a fashionable stage for CeCe’s Boutique’s grand inaugural. The clothing business to be run by Mrs. C and Cathy is finally taking shape as the two arrange a fancy photoshoot for advertising in the newspaper. Enter Tony Parker, an obsessive photographer, in-charge of delivering some chic images of the clothing.
The clothes are to be showcased by Pheline and Grace. While Pheline is a professional model, Grace is Cathy’s cousin. Kate Ashley designed the clothes, who would opt for a more contemporary style, deviating from the original description given by Cathy. When they realize that a feather boa is missing, Georgie suspects David has taken it. This will cause him much distress.
Meanwhile, coming fresh off the previous episode in this Season of Grantchester, the curiosity around the letter from Alphy’s mother is still lingering around. Geordie suspects where the letter came from and though Alphy does not want to delve into it, Geordie decides to investigate anyway. He also learns that Larry is looking into a diamond robbery.
The photographer is found murdered in the store
Then again in Grantchester’s signature style we have a mysterious murder to take precedence above everything. The day after the photoshoot, Mrs. C and Alphy will find Tony shot dead in the shop. The bullet is stuck in the wall and upon questioning, the neighbor will reveal that they heard a piercing commotion at about 10 the previous evening.
Mrs C. and Cathy had left the store at 6 pm along with others. But they had given Tony one of their spare keys. They also find several some photos in his pocket, which are very different from what he was supposed to take.
In this episode of Grantchester, Kate becomes the first suspect when she would deliberately expose a roll of photos to light to spoil them. She would insist that she did that, so Tony does not get his hands on the photos. She is also wearing an eyepatch to hide a black eye, which she claims she got from a fall.
She is left in shock when she learns about Tony. She would decide to come clean to the detectives and reveal that she had stolen the photos Tony had taken and replaced her own roll. When Tony had learnt it, he met at her around 9 pm and hit her. But despite the enmity between the two, Kate would vehemently stress that she did not kill Tony.
Desperate attempt to keep the boutique dreams afloat
Subsequently, the episode Grantchester brings us back to Mr. C and Cathy, who are now feeling powerless in this shocking turn of events. The boutique is a crime scene and they do not have any photograph for the advertisement. They would turn to Daniel instead to step in and help take some photos.
Pheline would state that she is unable to give her time and leaves shortly. Meanwhile, Geordie and Alphy will arrive to investigate the case. Grace will reveal that she had met Tony after the photoshoot, and he had promised to help her find some work the next day. And as Grantchester coincidences go, Tony had photographed the diamond, which were stolen and is being investigated by Larry.
Suspecting Tony’s role in the theft, Geordie and Alphy will arrive at the late photographer’s house, when they find Pheline in argument with a man called Brian. Geordie will sneakily ask for a glass of ice water and spills out, faking that one of the ice cubes is probably diamond. Pheline and Brian will start looking for it, only to becoming suspects in the case.
Brian was dealing with stolen items and was in cahoots with Tony as he managed to steal the diamond from a photoshoot. Pheline would insist that she was there only for photos from Tony and found Brian there.
But just as it would be in Grantchester, Daniel enters with photos from his previous shoots where she had modelled. It is revealed that her real name is Phyllis Morgan. She had learnt that Tony was planning to sell the diamond to Brian at around 7 pm on the day he was shot. But because of Kate’s photos, he did not turn up. Also, Pheline has a solid alibi. She was working as a waitress from 8 pm onwards.
Mrs. C and Cathy are having the worst luck. The stress creates friction between them. However, Mrs. C is determined to make it work and sets up a runway fashion show for a soft opening of the boutique. The missing feather boa also is found in David’s backpack, which will irate Geordie. While Alphy tries to talk to him, Geordie shuts him down.
Diamond theft that led to the murder
Grantchester’s murder case however continues to be a cause of concern. Brian will reveal that Tony was planning a trip over the weekend, which he told Grace about. But he had booked ticket just for himself. Also, the coat that Grace was wearing for the photoshoot appears ripped in Daniel’s photos, probably to fit in a weapon. Grace has a registered rifle and wanted to move away from her current life at the family farm.
But she would deny having shot Tony. Instead of pressuring her further, the detective will leave the diamond in the open and watch her steal as she assumes no one is watching her. Grace finally admits to the crime. She wanted the diamond and had visited the boutique to threaten Tony but ended up killing him. She is arrested and taken away. They also find the diamond in one of the pockets of the clothes.
With the murder case solved, this episode in Grantchester moves forward with CeCe Boutique’s much awaited fashion show. Pheline and Miss Esme Keating will model Kate’s clothes. Alphy’s love interest, Meg, is also invited for the event and the two decide to meet as friend. Geordie is still having a turbulent relationship with David, who would tell him that the only reason he took the feather boa was for fishing. The news calms Geordie.
But the episode ends on a surprising note for Alphy, who learns that Geordie found an address of his mother. This revelation leaves Alphy furious. He will have a bitter argument with Geordie about his decision to continue looking for Alphy’s mother despite being told not to do so. Alphy lashes out and leaves to tear his mother’s letter to pieces.
