On January 16, 2022, HBO debuted the touching comedy-drama Somebody Somewhere. This drama follows Sam as she recovers from a tragic loss in Manhattan, Kansas, and attempts to put her life back together.

Bridget Everett plays the lead role of Sam Miller. Sam, a Kansas native in her forties, starts making new friends, finds her singing voice again, and comes to terms with her own value as she ages.

All the other series are nothing like this one because Everett has a very special and modern way of thinking. She believed Miley Cyrus’s β€œThe Climb” said it all about Sam’s ascension to the mountain, so she included it at the end of her story. The song wasn’t intended to be a leitmotif, but since it evoked so much emotion from people, it became the rallying cry of the third season.

More about Bridget Everett and her statements about Miley Cyrus song

In one of the interviews with The Wrap, Bridget Everett explained that music by Miley Cyrus was non-negotiable in shaping Sam’s last big moment. She shared,

β€œHave to have β€˜The Climb’... I just love the message of it, and it matches the moment perfectly.”

The episode plays like a community celebration where Sam claims her voice and then leaves the characters in motion rather than tying everything with a neat bow. Bridget Everett began her career in 2007. This was done as a co-writer and actor in the Off-Broadway production At Least It's Pink.

Everett made her film debut in 2008 with Sex and the City, and she rocketed to notoriety with appearances on Inside Amy Schumer and her own Comedy Central special.

Everett brings years of stagecraft and vulnerability to Sam, while Miley Cyrus, an actress and global pop star, provides the anthem that crystallizes the show’s message about pushing through. Together, they turn a simple bar performance into a thesis statement for Somebody Somewhere.
