HBO Max sets premiere for One Day in October, based on real-life accounts of 2023 attack

The miniseries, One Day in October, will be aired on HBO Max after the streaming platform acquired the rights to air it in the US. The scripted miniseries will depict the horrific day of October 7, 2023, when Hamas attacked Israel, killing more than 1000 people, and taking several other hostages.

The series will air on October 7, 2025, which also marks the second anniversary of the surprise attack that took place during the Nova Music Festival. The series was filmed entirely in Israel and is inspired by true events that took place that day.

One Day in October: Release date and plot

Based on Hamas’s attack on Israel, One Day in October will be released on October 7, 2025, the same day the attack happened two years ago at Nova Music Festival. In the attack, numerous Israelis and foreigners, who were attending the music festival, died.

As per Variety, the synopsis of One Day in October reads as:

"[The limited series presents] seven emotionally gripping and artistically interwoven narratives of love, courage, sacrifice and survival. From families torn apart to moments of hope emerging in the face of unspeakable tragedy to incredible bravery against the odds, each episode reveals the human cost and resilience born out of chaos. The series portrays the victims’ and survivors’ experiences of that day and is brought to life by a distinguished cast and acclaimed creative team."

The attack of October 7 was one of the horrific events that occurred in the recent past, which also marks the start of the ongoing conflict between Hamas and Israel that has resulted in numerous Palestinian lives being lost and many displaced from their homes.

One Day in October: Cast and more

The limited series will narrate seven emotionally haunting stories, which will be brought to the screen by an ensemble cast that includes Wael Hamdoun, Swell Ariel Or, Yael Abecassis, Naomi Levov, Hisham Suliman, and Avi Azulay, among others.

The four-part series is created by Oded Davidoff and Daniel Finkelman. As per the Hollywood Reporter, Finkelman stated that the series is his attempt to depict stories about the extraordinary difficulties that sometimes an ordinary person finds themselves in. He stated:

"For me, film and television have always been more than entertainment, they are a way to bear witness. These are stories of ordinary people facing extraordinary moments."

He continued:

"In a time when truth is fragile, the most powerful thing we can do is to appeal to humanity itself. My hope is that these stories will open hearts and spark meaningful conversation."
