Young Sheldon started as a spin-off of The Big Bang Theory, but was able to create its own identity as it focused more on the family dynamics of the Coopers. From heartwarming moments to humorous storylines, the show had everything to make it a certified hit among the audience.
Part of the reason why the series became so successful was its stellar performances and honest relationships between the family members. It looks like the portrayal seemed authentic because the cast was actually able to connect with each other on an emotional level.
Ahead of Young Sheldon Season 3 premiere in 2019, Iain Armitage, who played the lead Sheldon Cooper, had a press conference where he revealed that his on-screen elder brother, Montana Jordan, is like a real sibling to him. He said:
“Oh goodness, we have a lot of fun together. And me and Montana, who plays the older brother [Georgie Cooper], he is so fun and so nice. He’s like a real older brother to us.”
Young Sheldon’s Iain Armitage once talked about how Montana Jordan is like a real sibling to him
During the press conference, Iain Armitage added that he has a lot of brotherly fun with Montana Jordan, who played his teenage brother Georgie Cooper Jr., on the sets of Young Sheldon:
“He’s like our jungle gym. He lets us climb on his back.”
Talking about his equation with other cast members of the show, Armitage said that he is close to everyone. The actor stated that he runs around the sets with Raegan Revord, who played his on-screen sister, Melissa "Missy" Cooper:
“I have a wonderful time with everyone. Raegan and I have such a fun time on set, we run around at lunch and stuff.”
Further opening up about his co-stars, the child actor revealed he also shares a strong bond with Annie Potts, who played his grandmother Connie Tucker, aka 'Meemaw.' Opening up about how he started calling her Meemaw in real life as well, Armitage stated:
“And then there’s everyone else — Ms Zoe [Perry, who played his mother Mary], Daddy Lance [Barber, who played his father George], Meemaw. Ms Annie [Potts, who played his grandmother], I call her my Meemaw [in real life]. She is my Meemaw now.”
Young Sheldon premiered on CBS in 2017 and earned wide praise and acclaim for its heartfelt story. The show served as a prequel to The Big Bang Theory and followed the childhood of Sheldon Cooper, a genius boy growing up in East Texas during the late 1980s and early 1990s. While he is academically brilliant, his awkward social skills make him clash with the world around him.
Following the conclusion of the series in 2024, Montana Jordan went on to have his own spin-off series, Georgie & Mandy's First Marriage. Meanwhile, the TBBT franchise continues to grow as another spin-off, Stuart Fails to Save the Universe, is currently in development.
Created by Chuck Lorre and Steven Molaro, Young Sheldon also starred Matt Hobby as Pastor Jeff Difford, Wyatt McClure as William "Billy" Sparks, and Emily Osment as Amanda "Mandy" Elizabeth McAllister, who is also reprising her role in Georgie & Mandy's First Marriage.
