JTBC’s romantic fantasy series Heavenly Ever After concluded its finale episode on May 25, 2025, with a bittersweet ending. The Korean series follows the story of Kim Hye-ja’s Lee Hae-sook, who meets her husband, Ko Nak-joon (Son Suk-ku), in heaven after her death at the age of 80.
The ending of the romantic story in Heavenly Ever After gave closure to Hae-sook and Nak-joon’s story as they realized they were soulmates after spending one life away from each other. The episode also depicted how Nak-joon had been blaming himself for all the sufferings that Hae-sook had gone through in the 23 lifetimes they were together.
Elsewhere, Young-ae’s story also ended on a heartwarming note as new romantic beginnings are hinted at when she meets Jang Gi-hwan.
More on this in our story.
Heavenly Ever After ending explained: Lee Young-ae wins more than a lottery
In the final episode of Heavenly Ever After, Hae-sook visits Young-ae in her dream to give her the lottery numbers. She also makes sure Young-ae remembers it and leaves after telling her to eat well.
Although Young-ae goes to buy the lottery ticket and also remembers the numbers, she doesn’t actually buy the ticket, as she gets distracted when she sees Jang Gi-hwan, who owes her money. However, the story doesn’t end there, as when she realizes she has missed buying the lottery ticket because of Gi-hwan.
Gi-hwan later buys her new shoes to run comfortably to chase him until he gives back the money, hinting at a new romance for the two.

Heavenly Ever After ending explained: Hae-sook and Nak-joon meet again
As in the previous episode, Hae-sook gets over her grief of losing her son when he forgives her; the final episode of Heavenly Ever After focuses on the couple’s decision of reincarnation. While both of them decide to reincarnate at first, Nak-joon later explains to Hae-sook why he doesn’t want to go with the plan.
He tells her that due to him, Hae-sook has suffered for 23 lifetimes before, and he doesn’t want her to suffer more; hence, they should part ways. The decision is heartbreaking for both of them, but they still go on with it. We see an elderly Hae-sook dying while surrounded by her close ones, and Nak-joon waiting for her, revealing that he was waiting for her.
The one lifetime they spent away from each other made them realise how they both belonged together, as shared by the Center Director when he tells Nak-joon about their bond being like a cage where they are tied together.
The final scene reveals two strangers suddenly noticing and running toward each other, depicting that Nak-joon and Hae-sook meet again in another lifetime. With this, their heavenly story comes to an end as the two find each other again and again, be it in heaven or on earth, resulting in a bittersweet ending to their story.
