In the penultimate episode of The Gilded Age Season 3, we saw how George Russell was shot by an assailant dressed as a deliveryperson. Due to his recent financial success, it's quite clear that the patriarch of the Russell family and the railroad titan has garnered several foes, including his former secretary, George Clay. The episode ended on a tense cliffhanger, leaving George Ruseel's fate hanging by a thread.

The finale episode of The Gilded Age, Season 3 Episode 8, titled My Mind Is Made Up opened with a carriage taking a wounded Mr. Russell to his home. When the servants carried him inside, Bertha and the house staff hurried to save him. Thankfully, Dr. William Kirkland was able to remove the bullet from Mr. Russell's chest. When the Russells' family doctor arrived in the morning, although initially skeptical, he appreciated Dr. Kirkland's prompt assistance. What likely caught the attention of the viewers was George Russell's remarkable recovery- especially during the late 19th century, when medical sciences were far from advanced. The answer lies in The Gilded Age's clever use of time jumps, allowing the storyline to be crisp and engaging.

The Gilded Age Season 3: How was George Russell able to recover so quickly?

George Russell's recovery wasn't a miracle- it was mainly due to Dr. William Kirkland's help that he got saved. Even though his recovery was technically at a realistic pace, in The Gilded Age Season 3, they used subtle time jumps to explore it. For instance, in the next scene, we see Gladys and Hector on a ship travelling to New York. Turns out, they have been informed about Mr. Russell. Elsewhere, Peggy Scott and Marian also have a chat about Mr. Russell's health update. Even though Mr. George Russell is still in bed rest, he's quite involved and asked Larry not to involve the police; instead hired a detective to find out who shot him. He further asked Bertha not to cancel the Newport Ball.

In the next few scenes, we see Gladys and Hector reach New York from Sidmouth, which would take at least two weeks. And soon enough, when Dr. Kirkland visited Mr. Russell, he was fit and steady. Mr. Russell thanked and compensated Dr. Kirkland as well. Bertha's Newport Ball was a success-not only was it a revolutionary move to remove the ban on divorced women, but Mrs. Astor, who was quite skeptical, graced the ball as well. Most importantly, George's presence at the ball suggests that a few months have passed since the shooting. The finale ends with George and Bertha arguing, as George was leaving for New York the next day after the ball. George still thinks that Bertha's ambitions caused more harm than good. However, the episode ended on a happy note with Gladys informing Bertha that she was four months pregnant.
