Offering a raw, behind-the-scene look at ambition, setbacks, and emotional triumphs, the Netflix docuseries brings fresh urgency to the longstanding conversations around women in motorsport.

An inside look at ambition, adversity, and acceleration

F1: The Academy takes gives viewers full-throttle access to the journeys of young women carving their path through one of the most male-dominated sports.

Spearheading the series is Susie Wolff, a former F1 weekend driver and now managing director of the F1 Academy, whose leadership lends the series both gravity and inspiration. Having once been the first woman in over two decades to participate in an F1 weekend, Wolff now leverages her experiences to build a platform for rising and talented women.

Susie Wolff tells Formula 1;

“We want to be the rocket fuel that drives female participation in our sport, both on and off the track.”

This urgency to bring out this story is felt all throughout F1: The Academy, as racers like Abbi Pulling and Bianca Bustamante open up about their wins and trials, both professional and personal.

Pulling, a racer on F1: The Academy , points out how the stakes are different from traditional F1 content by giving an interview out to Today by saying;

“...We’re on that journey, we’re on that progression path... fighting to prove why we deserve to move up the ladder, one step closer to Formula 1.”

The rawness of the storytelling isn't accidental. Executive producer Sara Rea explained the approach on an interview with Today by saying;

“We really are following the drivers’ journey so what’s pivotal presents itself to us... then we react to it and make sure we tell the story appropriately.”

Bianca Bustamante tells Today;

“It’s a level of closeness that you don’t let other people get to but the whole world will have access to that...”

Whether on the podium or in their most private struggles, these races bring vulnerability and fire to the fore.
