Halloween Wars Season 15 premiered on September 21, 2025. The first episode of the Food Network show titled Scare School featured participants divided into teams for their challenge.
One of the participants, Rebecca DeGroot, opened up about herself in her introduction. She talked about how she got into pumpkin carving and also about her tattoo skills.
As she prepared to compete on the Food Network show, Rebecca demonstrated pumpkin carving skills. She also recalled her childhood. Despite not being allowed to dress up or go trick-or-treating, the Halloween Wars star started pumpkin carving after she got into college.
"So I got into pumpkin carving because I wasn't allowed to celebrate Halloween when I was younger. We weren't allowed to dress up. We weren't allowed to go trick-or-treating. We weren't allowed to do any of those things. Once I was in college, I fully embraced the Halloween season and started carving pumpkins in my apartment," shared Rebecca.
Halloween Wars Season 15 Episode 1: Rebecca DeGroot shows her pumpkin carving skills while she looks back at her childhood
Recently released Halloween Wars Season 15 Episode 1 showed the contestants and how they got into pumpkin carvings. One of them was Rebecca DeGroot from Spring, Texas.
A tattoo artist and a professional pumpkin carver, Rebecca went to art school and became an art teacher. While opening up to the cameras about her background, she was carving a tattoo-style design on a pumpkin.
In her casting footage, she shared more about herself and her sense of humor:
"I have a very dry sense of humor. My favorite type of joke is dad joke. How do you fix a broken pumpkin? With a pumpkin patch. (Laughs)."
Further in her introduction, Halloween Wars' Rebecca shared:
"I stopped teaching about a year ago, so I've been exclusively tattooing for the last year. Being able to design a proper tattoo and making it look good on a three-dimensional object, like the human skin, is something that really comes into play when you're designing a three-dimensional carve on pumpkins."
She also showed how the process starts with the shape of the pumpkin. She had a big pumpkin, which she showed and mentioned would work "really well" for a spider-type shape.
"It's got kind of a larger section here for the face, and we can have legs coming off in either direction," said Rebecca.
While carving the pumpkin, Rebecca recalled how she got into pumpkin carving. Although she wasn't allowed to go trick-or-treating, dress up, or participate in other Halloween activities when she was young, she discovered a passion for carving during her college years.
She showed various arts and printmaking tools that she was using to carve her pumpkin. Halloween Wars star then got a couple of potatoes and used them as fangs and eyes on her pumpkin.
"I'd say I'm the best pumpkin carver because I can carve really quickly. I can do really fine details," she added.
Sharing more about participating on the show, Rebecca said she was hoping to make new friends and was coming to "win."
Further, the narrator mentioned that they still had many artists to meet to choose them as contestants for the show.
Fans can now stream Halloween Wars Season 15 on Food Network.
