Sister Wives' Kody Brown and his separation from three of his wives have been a major topic of discussion. Among them, Meri Brown, who got divorced legally and spiritually after years of neglect from her husband, was recently discussed in the latest Sister Wives Season 19 Episode 26.
While Kody Brown referred to Meri as his "favorite ex-wife", none of his ex-wives, including Meri, seemed to like that. It also featured cast members discussing how Kody's behavior has been with Meri over the years.
Kody's three ex-wives, Meri Brown, Christine Brown, and Janelle Brown, are no longer with him. Kody is only married to Robyn, as of now. While Meri and Kody have been legally divorced since 2014, later on, she also got divorced through the church, which they referred to as "spiritual divorce."
Sister Wives: Meri Brown's decade-long struggles against emotional neglect
While Kody feels that his failed marriages have been because of his wives, Meri, Janelle, and Christine seem to think otherwise. He also didn't like the fact that Meri got divorced, and the reason for that was abandonment. According to Sister Wives' Kody, Meri "changed." Viewers have witnessed how Meri has been struggling for over a decade, and then she finally decided to get divorced.
On the contrary, his ex-wives think that Kody is the one who has "changed." After marrying Robyn, he gradually stopped visiting Meri while she was living in Las Vegas. Over time, Kody stopped caring, and such emotional neglect was too much for Meri to go through for such a long time.
Kody failed to offer the emotional connection and support that Meri needed when they were together. She struggled through such conditions for over a decade and then made a tough decision.
However, deciding to get divorced wasn't an easy path for her. In 2014, Meri and Kody got legally divorced.
Later on, they also had to go through the "spiritual divorce" that happens through their church. For that, when she informed Kody, he didn't respond. The process is also called a "release" for which she also met their church's leaders.
The process was "heartbreaking" for Meri to go through, but she did it, all by herself.
"I was granted what is called in our church a release, which is basically the equivalent of a divorce. It was a very, very hard conversation, hard in meaning, heartbreaking because this is not what I wanted to do. This is not what I intended when I married Kody," confessed Meri.
The Sister Wives star also stated that when married, it was for "eternity", and that was her intention. But once she had the thought and how things have turned out, and she made up her mind for the divorce/ release, it meant it was "done."
As she stated at the time, she didn't want to be "sealed" to Kody. She wanted to separate "completely." While she also wanted a release from the church, Kody was resistant to that. Even after everything Meri had gone through, Kody was still not agreeing for her to get the release, after their legal divorce.
