In Wednesday Season 1, Principal Weems is killed by Professor Thornbill, who, being a shape-shifter, transforms into Tyler to listen to the truth Thornbill is hiding. While the fans thought that Weems wouldn't be there in Season 2, the writers of the show proved them wrong. They didn't undo her death but rather introduced her as the guiding spirit of the titular character.
Gwendoline Christie, who played Principal Weems, expressed her feelings about the same while speaking with Deadline, and how unexpected it was to receive an invitation for the show's Season 2, even after being killed.
“I was so delighted to be told that they would like me to come back to the show. It’s a really extraordinary invitation when someone says they’d like to have you back. The world of Wednesday is so up my street and in my heart,” she shared.

Here is what Gwendoline Christie said about returning to Wednesday Season 2

The writers leaned heavily into gothic twists and supernatural loopholes, and Principal Larissa Weems’ “return” just adds to that creative framework. As mentioned, in Season 2, the creators didn't retcon or undo her death but instead found a supernatural way to bring her back.
She appears as a glowy figure that is only visible to Wednesday's eyes. She can see Weems in her visions and dreamlike encounters. Therefore, Weems isn't a part of the physical world and the plot, but indeed guides Wednesday from beyond with some crucial insights.
The creators of the show, Alfred Gough and Miles Millar, while speaking with Deadline, also recalled how they so wanted to have principal Weems back in Season 2 and when they shot the scene where she is killed, they also spiraled on the thought of whether they had made a mistake.
“We definitely wanted to bring her back,” Gough said. “Miles tells the story when we were on set the night that she got killed in Season 1, and we were like, ‘Oh, did we make a huge mistake?’ Gwendoline and Jenna had great chemistry, and those characters really popped. We thought the spirit guide felt like the right approach.”
Therefore, the creators already had this in mind that they wanted to weave her back into the narrative through a different capacity. This helped them to preserve the emotional impact of her death while still letting her character exert influence over the new storylines.
“Before the first season ended, they mentioned that they might like me to return, which was exciting. They still killed me. They still had me on the floor foaming at the mouth. But after that, it took a while to find the right creative path to bring Weit’s more ems back, but when they told me she was going to be Wednesday’s spirit guide, that was very exciting to me, because then it’s not just a matter of playing the same part again or just picking up from where you left off. This is a new iteration of Weems,” said Christie.
Christie always wanted to play a version of Larrissa that has changed or transformed, and what the creators did to her character actually gave her a chance to be just that.
Season 2 of Wednesday wrapped up on September 3, 2025, and has been renewed for a new season.
