Max Thieriot-created (and starring) beloved firefighter series Fire Country returned with a tragic death on CBS.

The Season 4 premiere titled 'Goodbye for Now' picked up in the aftermath of the Edgewater memory care facility fire in the Season 3 finale, with Vince Leone (Billy Burke), Sharon (Diane Farr) and Walter (Jeff Fahey) trapped inside. While Bode (Thieriot) managed to rescue Walter's best friend in time, his knee gave out and he couldn't help his grandfather, which is when Vince and Sharon came to his rescue.

The Fire Country Season 4 premiere revealed that while Walter and Sharon managed to get out in time, the roof gave out on Vince. The Station 42 Battalion Chief was even taken to the hospital but he died due to extreme smoke inhalation.

The action series had already teased Vince's death in the Season 4 trailer but nothing could have prepared the fans for the actual moment. As the leader of Station 42 and Bode's father, Vince was a beloved character and fans will miss seeing Burke on their screens.

In a recent social media post, Farr has expressed her sympathy for Vince's fans over her on-screen husband's death in Fire Country Season 4:

“I know some of y’all are angry. I see those notes also. And I FEEL you.''

More on this in our story.

Diane Farr justifies Vince's death in the Fire Country Season 4 premiere

CBS's beloved firefighter procedural series returned with a major cast shake-up in Season 4, where Burke's Vince Leone was tragically killed in a fire. While this loss was difficult for his wife and son Sharon and Bode, Vince's fans are also mourning his death. Since Burke's character was a fan-favorite, they are naturally expressing their anger and disappointment over this change.

However, after sympathizing with Fire Country fans over Vince's death, the actress further justified this decision as it was consciously added to make the show feel real.

Diane Farr's social media post further read:

“But let me ask an honest question. If we only show the risk in this vocation, week after week, without at least attempting to portray the profound loss that comes to both a firehouse and a family when a key player – when one of their own – falls … wouldn’t we be skipping the deepest part of portraying firefighters?”

Additionally, the actress also praised her co-actor and on-screen husband, Billy Burke, on his flawless portrayal of Vince. She called fans' disappointment, anger and love for his character's death as a testament to Burke's acting prowess.

It looks like firefighter dramas are pushing really hard for realism these days. Earlier, ABC's beloved firefighter procedural drama 9-1-1 shocked its fans by suddenly killing off Peter Krause's character, Captain Bobby Nash. While Fire Country prepared its viewers for Vince's death, Bobby's death in 9-1-1 was sudden and heartbreaking.

While both shows have received backlash for these beloved character deaths, these are creative decisions that honour first-responders' legacy in the most authentic way.

Fire Country will continue to honour Vince's death in Season 4

Station 42 might have lost its Battalion Chief and Bode might have lost his father in the Fire Country Season 4 premiere, but the latest season will continue to honour Vince's death. Sharon and Bode mourned Vince's death in their own ways in the Season 4 premiere. While Sharon benched Station 42 for discussing job prospects at her husband's funeral, Bode threw himself into work and helped his community.

Executive producer/showrunner Tia Napolitano assures fans that Season 4 will continue honouring Vince and his sacrifices through Sharon and Bode. In an interview with Deadline, Napolitano revealed:

“They (Sharon and Bode) will continue to deal with it (Vince's death) throughout the season...It’s a huge loss. That being said, the season does not wallow in grief there. There are consequences for the death of Vince, both emotional and action wise, but Fire Country, as you know and love it, will return to your screen this season. It’s just we both honor the death and are able to, life moves on.”

Fire Country Season 4 will air weekly episodes on CBS every Friday.
