''I fully act out the job'': Lee Jong-suk breaks down his character in Law and the City and how it's different from his previous legal K-drama

South Korean actor Lee Jong-suk is back with a legal K-drama, Law and the City (literal title Seochodong). The actor also played a lawyer in his previous drama Big Mouth.

Law and the City follows the lives of five associate attorneys as they navigate their careers and daily lives together. Lee Jong-suk will lead the cast as Ahn Joo-young,

The K-drama is set to be released on tvN on July 5, 2025.

Joo-young is a nine-year lawyer, working at Kyungmin Law Firm. Unlike others who liked defending the weak, Joo-young became a lawyer because he had good grades and he liked solving cases using his logic.

While most lawyers open their own practice after five years, Joo-young seems to enjoy his stable salaried life.

Talking to the Singles Magazine, actor Lee Jong-suk revealed that the audience will get to see him play a no-nonsense lawyer in the legal K-drama:

''In this drama, I fully act out the job of a lawyer, but there aren't many scenes with heated courtroom arguments or rebuttals.''

Law and the City: Lee Jong-suk is set to star in another legal K-drama

Lee Jong-suk is certainly no rookie when it comes to legal K-dramas, as the actor has considerable experience playing lawyers and prosecutors on-screen.

In addition to his most recent K-drama Big Mouth, where he played a lawyer, the actor has also played a prosecutor in the classic K-drama While You Were Sleeping.

However, Law and the City is also a slice-of-life K-drama in addition to being legal, as the actor revealed in an interview with Singles magazine:

''It's an ensemble piece that focuses more on human connections, so you can think of it as a slice-of-life drama."

In his previous K-drama Big Mouth, Lee Jong-suk played Park Chang-ho, a third-rate lawyer, who gets involved in a murder conspiracy. While he played the character of a lawyer, the K-drama focused more on the murder mystery.

When asked about how Law and the City will be different than Big Mouth, Lee Jong-suk added:

"Although I played a lawyer in my last drama, that story didn't really focus on the character's job as a lawyer. ''

Contrary to his previous K-drama, Law and the City will actually see the actor play out the part of a lawyer. However, Jong-suk's character did not have a set goal in mind, but chanced upon this profession as he revealed:

"He became a lawyer more with a 'Well, I'm good at studying and arguing, so why not give it a try?' mindset.''

This could also be one of the reasons why Joo-hyung prefers a stable and comfortable job with a salaried employment rather than opening up his own practice.

Meet the other cast members of Law and the City

In addition to Lee Jong-suk, the Law and the City cast is also led by actress Moon Ga-young, who plays a second-year lawyer Kang Hee-ji. Ga-young is best known for her work in True Beauty and Welcome to Waikiki Season 2.

Other cast members of the legal drama include Kang You-seok (Resident Playbook) as Jo Chang-won, Ryu Hye-young (Reply 1988) as Bae Moon-jung, and Im Seong-jae (The Worst of Evil) as Kang Sang-ki.

In addition, actor Yoon Kyun-sang will also make a special appearance. He is best known for his work in Clean With Passion for Now and was also a supporting actor in Lee Jong-suk's 2014 series Pinocchio.
