I just found out Supernatural's one of the best episodes is also a favorite of Sam Winchester star Jared Padalecki (& it's something I had guessed)

Every Supernatural fan visibly panics when asked about their favorite episode and rightly so. With over 300 brilliant episodes, how can one pick? But still, fans and even the cast have some favorites that are closer to our hearts than others.

I recently found out Sam's (Jared Padalecki) favorite episode is also inarguably one of the show's most chaotic and meta episodes.

In a 2016 interview with Entertainment Weekly, the actor revealed that his favorite episode is from Supernatural Season 6, 'The French Mistake'. The actor got to break the Winchester brothers' pattern of monster hunting and try something different, which truly adds to the show's weird aesthetic, loved by the fans.

I think Jared Padalecki's favorite Supernatural episode is one of the best on the show

After discovering Jared Padalecki's favorite Supernatural episode, its clear that the actor has brilliant taste in cinema because it is also one of the greatest hours of television ever made.

On many occasions, I have rewatched The French Mistake and wondered if they actually pulled that off. To brush up on your memory, the episode follows Sam and Dean as they are sent into an alternate reality where (hear me out) the Supernatural TV show exists in real life and Sam and Dean are Jared Padalecki and Jensen Ackles.

Since Raphael sends the Winchester brothers there to protect them, they have to play along and navigate a world of bizarre monster-hunting shows and awkward celebrity interviews. For anybody who thinks modern TV re-invented meta-commentary, they should watch The French Mistake. It is evidence enough that Supernatural did meta before it was cool.

What's even more hilarious is that Sam and Dean (who are Padalecki and Ackles in real life) find it hard to adjust to Jared Padalecki and Jensen Ackles' lifestyle because it is so bizarre. They feel the fantasy TV show they are making is stupid and Dean is horrified at his fake life.

Supernatural Season 6's The French Mistake re-invented the show

While Supernatural was always a popular show, even fans would agree that it started to slip away in the latter seasons. However, an episode like The French Mistake completely turned it around and re-invented the show for me.

In hindsight, I can see why Padalecki picked the episode as his favorite. As an actor, he got to experiment and poke fun at his own craft, but in a respectful way. Padalecki's show version lived in a big house, had a weird love for alpacas and was not so well-liked by his stars and crew.

The episode even had hilarious cameos by series creator Eric Kripke, executive producer Bob Singer and many crew members who played fictional versions in the Winchester Brothers' alternate reality.

With episodes like The French Mistake, the show proved why it is so well-liked by its fans. Its ability not to take itself so seriously resonated with the audience. The unseriousness of the episode is what makes it the best. The inside jokes, hilarious gags, and meta-commentary on the film industry—everything was spot on.

From the writers to the actors, everybody was committed to making this the best hour of television, and they delivered. The bit where fictional Padalecki and Ackles do not talk to each other on set was hilarious to bits, and television peaked there. Every Supernatural fan cannot forget this episode, and I am sure Padalecki's choice speaks volumes about its brilliance.
