As Percy Jackson and the Olympians Season 2 gears up for its SDCC panel this week, the people involved in the series, including its cast, sat down for an interview with Entertainment Weekly's Sydney Bucksbaum on July 22, 2025. In this long interview, the actors promised an epic season that will up the ante from the fan-favorite eight-episode first season.
The first season introduces us to Athena's daughter, Annabeth Chase, who has been in Camp Half-Blood for five years. While she and Percy start on the wrong foot, she has a more cordial relationship with the Satyr Grover, who is also Percy's protector in Percy Jackson and the Olympians Season 1. That's because he had helped Annabeth get to the camp, and she finds him comparatively more reliable.
The second season, which follows book 2 of the series, The Sea of Monsters, will see Annabeth finally begin to rely on Percy more as Grover is held hostage. The thirteenth chapter of the second book, "Annabeth Tries to Swim Home," serves as the turning point in their relationship, and it looks like the upcoming season will be adapting this pivotal moment.
Both Walker Scobell and Leah Jeffries teased this Percy Jackson and the Olympians Season 2 moment in the Entertainment Weekly interview. Scobell was the first to speak:
"It's almost terrifying. There's scenes like that where you feel like every single Percy Jackson fan in the world is watching this happen. You can feel all their eyes on you while you're acting."
Jeffries, while teasing a change, promised this to the fans:
"I just love how it came together. Me and Walker definitely did our best to give you guys that."
SPOILERS for the books follow. Reader discretion is advised.
What is the teased Percy Jackson and the Olympians Season 2 moment?
The teased Percy Jackson and the Olympians Season 2 moment is the encounter with the sirens that Annabeth and Percy have in the thirteenth chapter of the second book. In that chapter, Annabeth wants to hear the song of the sirens despite all the dangers involved. While Percy covers his ears, Annabeth hears the song to learn more about herself.
As she tries to run towards the sirens, Percy saves Annabeth by restraining her. It is through her encounter with the sirens that brings Percy and Annabeth closer. This little moment in the second book serves as the foundation for their romantic relationship at the end of the fifth book, "The Last Olympian." Author Rick Riordan addressed how different the Percabeth romance will be on screen from the books:
"We're following the arc of the books pretty closely — I don't know that it's going to feel any faster. Certainly, we're not going to have them go on a date in season 3. No, the idea is still that they are friends and it is a question of: Are they going to be involved beyond friendship or not? That's a really interesting and important tension that I don't think we want to give up any sooner than we need to."
So, it means that much like the books, we can expect the two to begin dating in the closing moments of the possible fifth season, if it ever happens.
Percy Jackson and the Olympians Season 2 currently doesn't have a release date. But we do know that it is scheduled to release in December 2025, much like the first season.
