Chicago P.D. fans were recently taken aback when it was reported that Toya Turner will be stepping away from the show. The actress joined the procedural drama in 2024 as Officer Kiana Cook and will be saying goodbye to her character after just one season.
While neither NBC nor the creators of the show revealed the reason behind the unexpected development, Toya Turner has now broken her silence about her exit. The actress took to Instagram to share a lengthy post announcing that her time on Chicago P.D. has come to an end. She wrote:
“My time on Chicago P.D. has come to a close. This show challenged me, sharpened me, and revealed what I’m made of. I’ve evolved through this experience, both as an artist and in my craft, and I’m walking away with depth, clarity, and momentum for whatever comes next.”

Toya Turner shared multiple behind-the-scenes pictures from the sets of Chicago P.D. on Instagram. She thanked the cast and crew for supporting her during her time on the series, and also expressed her gratitude towards the fans of the One Chicago franchise, fondly called ChiHards:
“To the cast and crew: thank you for the warmth, the laughter, and the generosity you brought every day. It was an honor to share the screen and the set with such talent. To the ChiHards: thank you for welcoming me, rooting for me, and showing Kiana love.”
Turner concluded by writing that she is excited about the future opportunities in her career:
“And to everyone who believes in me: your support means the world. I’m excited for the opportunities ahead. Next chapter, Toya.”
The actress joined Chicago P.D. in Season 12 as Officer Kiana Cook. Kiana is a former tactical officer who is recruited by Hank Voight as a patrol officer for the 21st District. Throughout the season, she uses her skills and experience to investigate various cases with her team members and fight dangerous criminals.
The Season 12 finale does not set up her exit, so it remains to be seen how the writers will handle Kiana’s departure from the story. Meanwhile, reports suggest that she will be replaced by another female officer, who will be a ‘loose cannon’ unlike her and will have a military background.
Chicago P.D. revolves around the high-stakes cases solved by the fictional 21st District officers, as they also grapple with issues in their personal lives and rely on each other for support. Over the course of its 12 seasons, the show has seen the departure of several cast members before Toya Turner.
These include Jon Seda, who played Senior Detective Antonio Dawson; Sophia Bush, who starred as Detective Erin Lindsay; Tracy Spiridakos, who played Detective Hailey Upton Halstead; and Jesse Lee Soffer, who starred as Senior Detective Jay Halstead.
The current cast members in the show include Jason Beghe as Hank Voight, Patrick John Flueger as Adam Ruzek, Marina Squerciati as Detective Kim Burgess, LaRoyce Hawkins as Officer Kevin Atwater, Amy Morton as Sergeant Trudy Platt, and Benjamin Levy Aguilar as Officer Dante Torres.
Chicago P.D. Season 13 is expected to premiere on NBC in the fall of 2025.
