The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives star Jessi Draper attended a recent podcast episode of Not Skinny But Not Fat on November 21, 2025.

Jessi shared her thoughts on managing three businesses and being the breadwinner of her household.

While talking about working and jobs, she also reflected on her partner's work and fellow male cast members' jobs. She noted that they all used to work before the show and had regular jobs. However, once they were cast on the show, they all had to be available all the time.

Sharing her thoughts on Jordan's work, before The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives, Jessi shared:

"Jordan would sell solar, and he would go to California to Chicago to Texas, and he'd be gone for like the whole summer, and so that was hard for me once I had my second baby, and I was also like running three businesses. I was like, you can not be gone, and I was making enough money. So, it didn't matter. He actually quit his job before the show."

The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives: Jessi Draper reflects on being the breadwinner and how she decided for her partner not to work after having children

One of the questions Jessi was asked on the Not Skinny But Not Fat podcast was from the Hulu show. The host recalled one of the cast members mentioning Jessi making more money than her partner.

"Yeah. I feel like men need like work as like, a sense of identity, and it gives them purpose. And he stopped working like, two or three years ago. And I've been the one bringing in the money and having some success," shared Jessi.

She noted that at the time, she felt as if it threatened Jordan's ego. But it was not in a way that he was even aware of it. Jessi recalled Zach feeling the same with Jen during the show's first season.

"And maybe it's something with the church, but just being raised that like the man's the head of the household and they take care of the family and they're the breadwinner," she added.

The podcast host noted that male cast members, especially the dads featured on The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives, were leaning into "influencer life." She added that they didn't want to be a full-time dad.

Jessi also revealed that most of the male cast members had left their regular jobs. She said that while filming the show, they all had to be available at all times.

"So, it would be hard for someone to have a 9 to 5."

The host asked more about "regular" jobs that the male participants had before the show. In response, The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives star talked about Jordan's solar business. For that, he used to travel across California, Chicago, Texas, and more.

At the time, she was managing three businesses. But after she delivered the second baby, she told Jordan that he should be there, as she was making enough money to support them. Jessi recalled Jordan quitting his job before the show.

While recalling Jessi's house, the host recalled Demi's comments. She noted that Demi said Jessi sat on an empire.

Further in the podcast, the host asked Jessi to share her thoughts about her partner not working and that she was providing for the family. The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives star noted that she had a hand in that. It was after the two had two children, and she did not want him to leave for so long.
