Dexter: Resurrection starts off exactly where fans spent years wondering if Dexter Morgan was really gone. He is alive and heading to New York. His son Harrison has vanished, and the more he searches, the more you realize his moral line is as blurry as ever. There is crime, guilt, and inner conflict as always in the show, but with a new set up and a fresh sense of mystery.

Now, if you are all in on the Dexter: Resurrection world or just can’t get enough of Dexter's universe, there is something that's strangely similar. It is Death Note. It might at first seem like they are worlds apart. One’s a live action crime drama, and the other’s an anime fantasy crime drama. Both, however, sneak inside your head, and mess with your sense of right and wrong. All of this, while keeping you totally hooked.

So, if Dexter: Resurrection is your favorite crime drama, Death Note might become your next obsession.

Death Note is a Japanese series from 2006 about a high schooler named Light Yagami, who stumbles on a notebook that kills anyone whose name he writes in it. He decides to clean up the world by eliminating criminals and becomes an underground judge, jury, and executioner. That is when L, a genius detective who lives on snack bars and weird body language, steps in to try and stop him. Their rivalry is one reason why this show is super addictive.

Death Note is especially compelling even years later because of how it toys with your sense of justice. When it first aired in 2006, it became a cultural lightning bolt. Adapted from the hit manga written by Tsugumi Ohba and illustrated by Takeshi Obata, the series instantly hooked audiences in Japan and quickly spread worldwide. Fans praised its writing, twists, and the cat and mouse mind games between Light and L.

Critics called Death Note one of the most original thrillers of its time. The mix of philosophical debates, clever plotting, and eerie supernatural rules turned it into a must-watch classic for anyone who likes their drama with brains and bite.

Now, Dexter: Resurrection isn’t about supernatural notebooks but it is a gritty continuation after Dexter survives being shot and goes after his son in NYC. Meanwhile, a new circle of killers slowly surround his life. However, just like Death Note, it is a show that messes with your head. Dexter is forced into choices that question who he is beneath his facade.

So, both shows park you inside the heads of people doing terrible things, yet you kind of root for them. Dexter skips funerals and vengeful killings, Light plays God. Also, both storylines thrive on that discomfort, loving the person, hating what they do, and being totally glued to their next move. It is morally gray, unsettling, and exactly the type of content you binge when you want something that leaves a mark on you.
