The Hunting Wives premiered on Netflix on July 21, 2025 and right after it hit the screens, the series proved to be a hit among viewers. Though The Hunting Wives Season 2 has not yet been confirmed, the finale of the first season has left the room open for another installment of the series.
The official synopsis of the show, as mentioned by Rotten Tomatoes, reads,
“Sophie trades city life for East Texas and falls into a wealthy socialite's magnetic orbit - where a clique of housewives hide deadly secrets.”
Adapted from May Cobb’s novel by the same name, The Hunting Wives captivates the audiences with its raunchy plotline and while season 1 starts off as a slow burning mystery, the show eventually takes up pace towards the end and major credit goes to the character of Deputy Wanda Salazar, who is portrayed by Karen Rodriguez.
While the characters of the housewives like Margo Banks, Jill, Sophie O'Neil etc do keep the plot engaging, Wanda Salazar's character steals the show whenever she appears on screen. She has quite an intriguing backstory and if The Hunting Wives Season 2 comes into being, her character deserves special focus because of the way it has been developed in the first season.
Who is Deputy Wanda Salazar in The Hunting Wives?
Played by Karen Rodriguez, Deputy Wanda Salazar is the no nonsense local deputy. She is a tough character, which is also a basic requirement for any woman to last in a hugely male dominated police force in East Texas.
Salazar is extremely different from the housewives who often take the center stage in the show, and her character highlights the contrasting lifestyles that they lead.
Deputy Wanda Salazar will be interesting to explore in The Hunting Wives Season 2
While the storyline of The Hunting Wives keeps things steamy with storylines of affairs and secrets, things really start to heat up when Abby, a local teenager gets murdered. Salazar is the local deputy and while she is shown to be on leave, that does not stop her from stepping in to solve the case.
Given the fact that the Netflix show is set in East Texas, the presence of a female deputy in itself is an intriguing storyline to explore given the conservative views of the area. Salazar has her own share of struggles in her job but she is quite serious about it and there is a certain hopeless and cynical quality about her that makes her character even more layered and interesting to watch.
In a flashback sequence, the reason behind Salazar’s leave is explained and it is shown that she was shot on the side of her head while hunting down a kidnapper who had abducted a teenager. She was still recovering when Abby’s murder happened and that brought her right back to action.
Salazar’s character brings a fresh perspective to the raunchy theme of the show as she acts as a stark reality check among the characters of the housewives and their husbands, who are continuously busy with affairs and burying their secrets. Rodriguez's portrayal of Salazar is also quite captivating as she perfectly brings out the signature deadpan quality of the deputy.
The Hunting Wives Season 2, if it happens, has the perfect means to explore Salazar’s character in detail and also focus more on her past and how she came to have such a good relationship with Deputy Flynn.
Since it was the two of them who appeared after Margo's brother was hit by Sophie (who later fled the scene), it would be interesting how the investigation proceeds from that point and what new clues Salazar finds that no one else in the department notices.
The Hunting Wives can be streamed on Netflix.
