Netflix's hit supernatural comedy Wednesday is now the talk of the town following the grand opening of its Season 2 Part 1. The show has gained huge popularity over the years with commendable RT numbers - not to mention the streaming success.

Following Wednesday Season 2's premiere, the excitement among fans has skyrocketed within a short time, and the announcement of a third chapter has only added fuel to the fire. Recently, while on an interview with Collider, the Wednesday showrunners shared a hopeful update about the Netflix series' future. Per Collider, creator Alfred Gough has mentioned in a statement saying:

"We're actually in the writers' room for Season 3. So we're down the road a bit in the writers' room."

Wednesday Season 3 is already underway and the latest update looks promising

Wednesday showrunners' recent statements have addressed a lot of obvious questions from the fans who are eagerly awaiting the titular protagonist (played by Jenna Ortega) to return. According to the Wednesday showrunners, Season 3 has already hit the start button, but Gough's statement has further confirmed that there has been a temporary pause because of obvious reasons.

To quote his exact words:

"But now we've, of course, stopped to launch Season 2."

Moreover, executive producer Tim Burton, who was in charge of four episodes in both the first and second seasons, has not confirmed to return for the third chapter yet. As per showrunner Miles Millar's statement to Collider:

"It just depends on his schedule."

Burton, according to Millar, has a good "rapport with the cast" of Wednesday, and so his return to the creative team is something that is highly expected as well as anticipated. Moreover, his long ties to the hit Netflix show might be an obvious reason to play a big role in Season 3.

To quote Millar's exact words:

"We've had a five-year collaboration with him, which has been one of the highlights of our careers. It's just great. We hope he's free to come back."

Wednesday Season 2 Part 2 has been confirmed by Netflix for an early September premiere this year, and given the fact that Season 3 is already in production, the release window looks quite promising. While on the interview with Collider, showrunner Gough gave a hopeful response when asked whether the Netflix series would return with the third chapter by 2027.

He added:

"Yeah, that would be ideal."

Wednesday showrunners address the unexpected gap between the first two seasons

According to Collider, Wednesday creators have also confirmed that Season 3 will have eight episodes. Moreover, they also addressed the big hiatus between the first two seasons, citing two reasons. The first one is the obvious delay caused by the "writers' strike," and moreover (according to the creators, per Collider), shooting the second season involved a lot of logistical challenges involving transit between countries.

With "over 3500 visual effects shots," the production was (overall) a lot bigger than the first chapter, as confirmed by Millar. Thus, the time gap was longer than expected, but the creative team wanted to make sure that the audience gets served quality content.
