Countdown Episode 10 wraps up the Volchek story way too early with quite a good amount of action. Not only this, but it also serves as a bridge between the task force's first successful mission and a brand new threat looming over Los Angeles (which eventually brings back Nathan Blythe's unit together).

However, the meaning of Countdown Episode 10's title does not come to light until later when the cameras shift to the Secret Service headquarters. The viewers come across a fresh new face, Ryan Fitzgerald, aka Fitz, who I have seen burdened with a load of "bottom of the barrel cases" that are commonly tagged under "The Muzzle Pile."

It is from this Muzzle Pile that Fitz comes across a random message alert. It eventually turns out to be something big, and Special Agent Nathan Blythe gets involved with another case of national security.

What is "The Muzzle Pile" in Countdown Episode 10?

Countdown Episode 10 breaks a major creative convention and introduces a whole new chapter in the middle of an episode. Last time we saw the task force, most of the members had returned to their usual jobs in their respective departments, and Mark Meachum went for the medical trial meant to cure his brain tumor.

However, as we witness in Countdown Episode 10, just 10 months down the line, Nathan Blythe's old team reassembles to neutralize a major threat - this time involving the Governor of California as well as the POTUS. Thanks to the presence of mind of a bright new mind like Fitz, the almost unrecognizable threat comes to light.

Fitz works with the Secret Service, where his job is apparently restricted to the desk (mostly) and is quite mundane. He has been assigned "The Muzzle Pile," which involves a big volume of cases with the lowest priority mark.

Moreover, Fitz has been at his work for a long time now and has not come across any better opportunities. So, when he stumbles upon a mysterious voice report from a woman named Patricia Perez and senses something fishy, he jumps at the opportunity to make it his own case.

But little did Fitz know that The Muzzle Pile would bring him in contact with what appears to be a rather perilous mission where the target is the US government itself. With eagerness in his heart and passion to do something great, Fitz digs into The Muzzle Pile, and his initial investigation unearths a lot of crucial information for Nathan Blythe's new task force titled Armor.

Fitz also joins the task force, and Mark Meachum surprisingly returns in good shape in Countdown Episode 10. Agent Shepherd seems to be more than happy to get a chance to work alongside Bell and Finau once again. However, the only missing person is Oliveras, who is apparently handling something crucial on behalf of the DEA.
