Season 3 of Interview with the Vampire has wrapped production and will premiere in 2026 on AMC and AMC+. The series, which brought Anne Rice’s gothic world to life for the twenty-first century, has only deepened in its spellbinding, operatic storytelling and surreal beauty, with its many emotional character arcs.

The between-the-lines passion play of Interview with the Vampire is the centrepiece of AMC’s Immortal Universe. Now, season 3 will focus exclusively on the mysterious and flamboyant Lestat de Lioncourt.

Based on Rice’s The Vampire Chronicles, the series is a 2022 reimaging of the 1994 film starring Brad Pitt and Tom Cruise. Each season of the series adaptation was critically lauded for its striking visuals and layered performances. It was also praised, especially for how faithfully and boldly it expanded on Rice’s mythology.

How many episodes will Interview With The Vampire Season 3 have?

With the new season retitled The Vampire Lestat, anticipation is building as the story prepares to shift in tone and perspective. According to Screenrant, season 3 will have 6 episodes, making it the shortest season of the series. The news is inferred via an Instagram post from director Jane Wu that shows a production clapperboard and the code '306,' indicating the conclusion of episode 6. The post also named the cinematographer, Earle Dresner, who has served as cinematographer for episodes six and seven of season two. The caption read:

“And that’s a wrap.”

The announcement followed executive producer and co-creator Mark Johnson’s comments at the Talamasca: The Secret Order New York premiere on October 21 that filming on The Vampire Lestat was to conclude that week. Filming began on June 20, with an official update on the series' social media accounts confirming the start of production earlier this summer.

Previous entries in the Immortal Universe, including Mayfair Witches and earlier Interview with the Vampire seasons, consisted of seven to eight episodes each. The fact that the season will be shorter has sparked interest among fans, given how dense Rice’s books are. However, this brief season could also signify a focused narrative approach allowing for tighter storytelling centred on Lestat’s evolution and inner turmoil.

Interview with the Vampire season 3 will be based on The Vampire Lestat, the second book in Rice's popular series. Moving from the first two seasons that tracked Louis’ story, the story now follows Lestat as he takes back his narrative and embarks on a new one. The season will explore his origins, his rise to fame in the 1980s rock scene, and his journey through the centuries as he attempts to define his place in a world that both fascinates and torments him.

In addition to sharing Lestat’s own story, this chapter will also broaden the mythology of Rice’s universe, following season 2's events, which concluded with journalist Daniel Molloy releasing Louis’ confessional tale. The new season is expected to explore the fallout of that revelation within the vampire world. With his past both unearthed and made peace with, Louis must deal with the consequences of his choices as Lestat moves into the spotlight.
