Apple TV+'s Invasion Season 3 has kicked off this week, which is the next installment of the sci-fi show created by Simon Kinberg and David Weil. The Season 3 premiere checked in with only a handful of central characters, setting the stage for another deadly alien invasion.
As seen in the Season 2 finale, the authorities learned that the trapped alien entity was part of the many alien portals across the Atlantic. After Casper and Trevante sacrificed themselves and crash-landed the Mothership, humanity was restored.
While nobody knows specific details about M-Day, the alien threat has been largely contained, making Trevante and Casper into fallen war heroes. However, the event has led to the destruction of a certain part of the Planet, called the dead zone, and no human is allowed entry there.
In Invasion Season 3 Episode 1, humanity has returned to its normal way, but a shocking return changes everything for them and hints at another and deadlier alien attack.
Here is the complete Invasion Season 3 Episode 1 recap.
Invasion Season 3 Episode 1 recap: A temporary normal
Invasion Season 3 Episode 1 opens two years after Trevante and Casper's sacrifices led to the crash-landing of the Mothership and the 'destruction' of all alien forms. The event, now called M-Day, also led the government to hunt down all 12 alien portals, which are now closed.
Humans have returned to their normal lives, living as before, and without any threat from aliens. However, M-Day changed everything we knew about the world, as it wiped out the concept of nations. Currently, the World Defense Coalition is the only government that rules the World, led by an American President named Zhou.
On the other hand, Zamila has also moved on with her life in London, where she is currently living with her new boyfriend. She doesn't seem to be in contact with her old school friends, but she still occasionally wonders what happened to Casper on the Mothership.
Invasion Season 3 Episode 1 recap: Trevante's suspicious return
As Invasion Season 3's trailer teased, this normal was only temporary, as soon the soldiers discover Trevante's living body from one of the portals in the Atlantic. His return is very suspicious (to say the least), and the government suspects that he is now an extraterrestrial spy, sent again to capture all Humanity. As Trevante is questioned, he doesn't seem to remember anything about the events of the Season 2 finale. In addition to his memory distortion, he is also having harrowing visions about the alien mothership, accompanied by painful migraines.
However, he feels a ‘scratch at the back of his head', which he believes is a premonition that the threat has not passed, and the aliens are only planning to strike back with a larger force. When he shares his fears with the government, they don't pay heed to him and disregard them as his PTSD. The officials decide to give Trevante a hero's welcome and organise an event to honour his sacrifices.
Invasion Season 3 Episode 1 recap: Trevante remembers a key detail
In London, Jamila sees the news about Trevante's shocking return and decides to travel to the US to find out about Casper's death. At the event, Trevante is still being plagued by visions of mothership, but he doesn't seem to remember any key detail that could help him. However, after Jamila shows him Casper's EEG report from the exact moment he had passed away, Trevante's memory is strongly triggered.
Invasion Season 3 Episode 1 foreshadowed another impending alien attack as Trevante remembered his final moments in the Mothership, before the aliens threw him out of the portal. He sees a shadowy figure, not clear alien or not, lurking behind the blue walls of the Mothership. He also remembers trying to destroy the spaceship with a metal shard, but nothing came out of it. His visions suggest that the ship was not destroyed by human effort, but by the aliens themselves.
The final moments of the Invasion Season 3 premiere saw Trevante leaving the event and possibly heading to meet Jamila to find answers about the Mothership and Casper's death. The screen cuts to black as Trevante experiences sudden jolts and a blue flash in his eyes, possibly suggesting that he is in control of the alien hivemind.
