As people started wondering whether it is a real condition, James Gunn posted a video of the show’s cast on social media, where they talked about an awareness campaign for the disease. So, is Bird Blindness shown in Peacemaker Season 2 a real health condition? The answer is no. The condition is fictional and has been used as a joke to add humor to the series.

Bird Blindness from Peacemaker Season 2 is not a real condition

In Peacemaker Season 2 Episode 2, A Man Is Only As Good As His Bird, A.R.G.U.S. agent Langston Fleury tells John Economos about his Bird Blindness, revealing how he cannot differentiate between various species of birds, and cannot figure out which bird is a parrot and which one is an eagle.

When an eagle attacks him, Fleury thinks it is a duck, which makes up another humorous joke. When John Economos asks him how he can not distinguish between a duck and an eagle given they have different features and sizes, Fleury says it is because of his condition.

Bird Blindness is actually a fictional creation of James Gunn, and the disease does not exist in the real world. However, the illness does seem to be inspired by two real conditions: Visual agnosia and Prosopagnosia. Though these two conditions are real and share common traits with the Bird Blindness, there are no known cases where a person is not particularly able to distinguish between birds.

Bird Blindness is now a running joke in Peacemaker Season 2

The joke of Bird Blindness is now not just limited to Peacemaker Season 2. Soon after the release of the episode, James Gunn took to social media to post a video where the show’s cast started a campaign to raise awareness about the condition. Gunn captioned the post:

“Learn about this very serious condition from the cast of #Peacemaker. #BirdBlindness #BirdBlindnessAwareness.”
