This is the final call for you to complete your binge-watching of The Good Place, as the 2016 Michael Schur-created afterlife philosophical sitcom is leaving Netflix in September. While the platform has been a streaming home for this beloved sitcom since its conclusion in 2020, it is finally leaving Netflix in 2025, five years after its conclusion on NBC.

While the exact reason behind this change is not confirmed, the fantasy comedy series is likely departing from Netflix due to the license deal between NBCUniversal and Netflix.

Starring Kristen Bell and Ted Danson, The Good Place is a fantastical series that follows the afterlife, where people are segregated in the 'Good Place' and 'Bad Place' according to their time on Earth. However, when Arizona dirtbag Eleanor Shellstrop (Bell) finds herself in the afterlife heaven, she realizes that she doesn't belong there.

The sitcom was praised for its exciting twists and turns and also stars Danson as the afterlife architect Michael, William Jackson Harper as an ethics professor and Eleanor's soulmate Chidi Anagonye, Jameela Jamil as philanthropist/model Tahani Al-Jamil, D'Arcy Carden as the programmed guide of the afterlife Janet, and Manny Jacinto as an amateur disc jockey Jason Mendoza.

The Good Place will likely not have a streaming home on Netflix anymore

Eleanor Shellstrop and the rest of The Good Place gang are sadly leaving Netflix on September 25, 2025. The last date to stream the sitcom suggests that the show is likely leaving the streaming giant due to its license deal with NBCUniversal, the platform that exclusively holds the rights to the show.

According to a report by What's on Netflix, the streaming juggernaut holds the deal for a show for the lifetime of its run and can then keep it on the platform for an additional five years. Since The Good Place wrapped its series finale (Season 4 finale) on September 26, 2020, it is finally time for the sitcom to bid goodbye to the platform, five years after its official conclusion on-air. This makes September 25 the last day for the US audience to stream the sitcom on Netflix. However, audiences watching from outside can continue to stream the show for an additional year before it departs.

Some reports also suggest that while The Good Place is leaving Netflix, all four seasons will be available on Amazon Prime Video after September. Additionally, since Peacock is NBCUniversal's official streaming platform, the sitcom may become available there after it departs from Netflix.

What other shows and movies are leaving Netflix in September?

While The Good Place is one of the biggest titles that are leaving Netflix in September, it is certainly not the only one. As the streaming platform begins to build its fall library for 2025, you can expect even more shake-ups and changes in the TV shows and movies available.

If you wish to re-watch cozy romantic movies like The Notebook or The Holiday for the umpteenth time this fall, you might have to look for alternative streaming platforms, as Netflix is losing both of these titles. Another classic romantic movie, 50 First Dates, will also leave the platform in September.

Sci-fi and action-loving fans are also likely to be disappointed, as the platform is also losing titles like Mad Max: Fury Road, After Earth, and The Mule. Additionally, TV shows like Chappelle's Show, Chosen, and Greenleaf will also depart from the platform, along with The Good Place.

Set your binge-watching priorities right and stream these TV shows and movies before they are gone for good from Netflix.
