Apple TV+'s Women in Blue is renewed for Season 2

Apple TV+ Women in Blue created waves in streaming and currently sits at a perfect RT score of 100%. It was a hit among the critics and the audience alike, with fans appreciating the show for its stellar performances and flawless storytelling.

While the show concluded Season 1 in September 2024, there was no news about its renewal. However, the wait is over, and the network has confirmed that Women in Blue will return with Season 2, with the previous cast members. The second season will consist of 8 episodes and has already begun production.

The official announcement from Apple TV+ reads as follows:

''[The second season] continues the story of the four women who defied the ultra-conservative norms of the time by becoming Mexico’s first female police force.''

The squad has undoubtedly come a long way from Season 1 and will be promoted to lieutenant in the sophomore season. The second season will follow the murder of a young university student, which will lead to more casualties and a deeper web of conspiracies.

While Maria had earlier sworn to follow the rules, the serial killings and the new murder conspiracy will put her on edge and she will continue to pursue the truth relentlessly. María, Ángeles, Gabina and Valentina will be embroiled in this conspiracy, leading them to uncover even more secrets and catch more killers in the sophomore season.

Women in Blue is inspired by Mexico's first police squad

Series creator Fernando Rovzar was inspired by Mexico's first police squad and decided to make a show revolving around it. Women in Blue aptly depicted the picture of a dangerous Mexico City in the 1970s, filled with serial killers and predators.

The Mexico City in which these women live is laden with cultural prejudices and casual s*xism, which hinders them from forming a police squad. However, they were created as a distraction from the public from the Mexico City student massacre of 1968 and the serial killer.

Rovzar actually interviewed a woman from the first class who revealed that the female police squad was mistreated and was not allowed to solve cases or make arrests. Their main aim was to smile brightly and distract the public from the ugly things around them.

After a successful first season, Rovzar will continue to expand on these women's history. The second season will explore how they helped solve the Mexico student massacre and prove they are as capable as their male counterparts.
