ABC's sci-fi drama, Lost, aired its first episode back on September 22, 2004 and spanned over six seasons and 121 episodes till 2010. Ever since its inception, the show has been well-recieved by the audience and has bagged solid RT scores overall.

However, there have been lots of discussions about the series finale among lovers of Lost (as well as the creative team) as to why the show ended in the 'controversial' way it did. Recently, while on an inteview with People, Lost star Daniel Dae Kim (whose most recent hit includes Avatar: The Last Airbender), opened up about the highly-debated conclusion saying that he has 'some understanding of it now'.

To quote his exact words:

"I think I have some understanding of it. I was able to talk to the showrunners and I enjoyed it. I know it was controversial, but I enjoyed it.

The ending of the ABC drama Lost, even more than a decade later, is often considered emotional and was received with a lot of controversy back then. However, Daniel Dae Kim has recently defended the show's ending while mentioning how its characters got closure at the end.

His exact statement was:

"It provided closure for the characters, and that's the thing I wanted most from that finale."

Per People, in 2016, Daniel Dae Kim also justified Lost's controversial ending (for the first time) where he mentioned that he "genuinely liked it" and nothing else mattered to him. According to Kim, there were definitely a lot of mysteries that went unearthed but what's most important was "what happened to the characters".

Kim further added that he was content to see the characters getting their full arcs after having spent so much time together on the island. Though the characters got a complete story, a lot of mysteries still remain unaddressed - some (among the many) of them being the back story of the island, what is it's actual origin, why is it spiritual (or rather special) and the significance of certain numbers that appear all throughout the show.

The concept of time travel seemed to be a bit muddled as well, and its loopholes remained till the very end - even the highly anticipated series finale could not solve them. Despite all these mysteries that have passed unanswered, Lost star Daniel has spoken in defence of the show's success. Per People, he reportedly mentioned in a statement:

"The fact that people come up to me 20 years after it aired … is very special, very unique. It doesn't often happen in this business when there's so much content to watch all the time."
