During a recent appearance on Josh Horowitz’s Happy Sad Confused podcast, lead actor Jeremy Allen White revealed that when the first table read of the script happened, it did not go well, and hence, he thought The Bear might not be liked by the audience. Jeremy said:“The script was great…But I remember we had one table read for our show, and it was for the pilot. And it did not read well. And it took like seven minutes because everybody was like speaking so quickly, and the transitions weren't clear, and so I think everybody was a little bit like, ‘Uh oh!’ Like, ‘What do we have?’”Jeremy Allen White reveals how the initial table read for The Bear was a bad experienceDuring the podcast, Josh Horowitz asked Jeremy Allen White about the initial days of The Bear and if he knew that the show was going to become special. Jeremy revealed that, instead, the poor table read made the cast worried. However, director Christopher Storer was able to create magic from the script, and the cast members brought a natural chemistry to the screen, which helped make the series a hit among the audience. The actor stated:“Um, but it's a credit to Chris and his direction, and also the feeling that he kind of gave us all. That feeling of excitement and yeah, I think everybody's chemistry and everybody showing up and caring so much immediately.” View this post on Instagram Instagram PostJeremy further added that before the start of The Bear, none of the cast members were huge stars. And hence, everybody worked hard and put their best foot forward, which ultimately led to the series’ success and the actors’ stardom:“You know, Liza had done theater for a very long time. She hadn't really had her moment yet. Um, Lionel hadn't done very much. I hadn't done very much. Ebon had done some stuff. And I had Shameless in some stuff, but nobody was like, you know, yeah, gonna anchor this thing as like, oh, that's the star, you know what I mean? But I think that made everybody show up and just be so, you know, we just took advantage and we cared so much.”The Bear stars Jeremy Allen White as Carmen "Carmy" Berzatto, an acclaimed chef from New York City who returns to his hometown in Chicago to work at his family’s Italian beef restaurant after the death of his brother. The show also stars Liza Colón-Zayas as Tina Marrero, Lionel Boyce as Marcus Brooks, Ebon Moss-Bachrach as Richard "Richie" Jerimovich, Ayo Edebiri as Sydney "Syd" Adamu, Abby Elliott as Natalie "Sugar" Berzatto Katinsky, Matty Matheson as Neil Fak, and Edwin Lee Gibson as Ebraheim. The Bear Seasons 1 to 4 are streaming on Hulu.
