Jenna Fischer, who played Pam Beesly on NBC’s The Office, recently revisited all nine seasons on her Office Ladies podcast and reached a simple conclusion:

“My biggest takeaway from having rewatched it was that it’s really good the whole time.”

Her comment directly challenges the widespread idea that the series lost its spark when Steve Carell left after Season 7. By pointing out strengths across every season, Fischer invites viewers to judge the show as a complete story rather than focusing only on the early years.

Jenna Fischer says the show never lost its quality

Jenna Fischer recalled that she and many others believed The Office peaked around Seasons 3 or 4, partly because award nominations slowed after that point. Yet, as she explained on Office Ladies, rewatching all episodes made her see consistent quality from start to finish. She stated,

“I think some of the award nominations stopped after season 3. So I think maybe we got in our heads and thought, ‘Oh, I guess we’re not creating as great.”

Noting that the writers and cast maintained their chemistry even amid major changes. Her observation underlines that shifts in storylines or personnel didn’t stop the show from delivering strong moments.

She was surprised by episodes in the later seasons

Contrary to popular lore, Jenna Fischer discovered some of her favorite moments in the last two seasons.

“When I watched everything, some of my favorite episodes were in Seasons 8 and 9 after Steve [Carell] had left. There were still these amazing storylines.”

Fischer said that the creative team continued to explore new ideas and character arcs. This surprise endorsement from an original cast member gives weight to the argument that later seasons deserve a fresh look.

Even as she praised the last half, Fischer didn’t forget the standout mid-series plots that fans have long celebrated. She pointed to Season 4’s “Dinner Party” and the Michael Scott Paper Company arc in Season 5 as personal favorites. The actress went on,

“I have to say now, when I look back, those episodes just hold up so well.”

Jenna Fischer shared thoughts about her own performance

Fischer’s rewatch also prompted candid reflections on her work. She confessed,

“Sometimes I watch it and I’m like, ‘I’ll never do work that good again. S—, that was great, but then there’s other scenes where I just cringe, where I’m like, ‘Oh, God, I remember how I struggled with that.’”

These mixed reactions remind listeners that even actors see flaws and highlights when they revisit old projects.

Her comments invite everyone to revisit every season

With The Office still widely available on streaming platforms, Fischer’s remarks offer a neutral but encouraging reason to give Seasons 8 and 9 a fair chance. Rather than skipping post-Carell episodes based on reputation alone, viewers might discover fresh laughs and new character moments.

Jenna Fischer's simple takeaway that the series “is really good the whole time” serves as an open invitation: taste the full menu before choosing your favorite courses.
