Peacemaker Season 2 has been a wild ride for the last two episodes; well, for most of the second season. But the twists and turns in the last two episodes have been a masterclass in the genre from James Gunn. It's more than clear that Gunn was especially excited for the reveal of these episodes, as not even his publicist was allowed to watch the last three episodes so that he could hold on to the excitement and the shock factor of it all.

If you have not watched the last two episodes of Peacemaker Season 2, this is the official point of no return as we move on to the spoilers.

The N*zi track of the second universe was an unexpected surprise, to say the least, but the way it was revealed was an even greater plus. Chris, being Chris, only focused on the things that appeared to be good about the second universe and missed some very glaring realities.

In the latest episode of the official James Gunn podcast, where he sits down with Jennifer Holland and Steve Agee to talk about the episode after they are released, Gunn actually talks about the factors that make it believable that Chris missed the obvious realities of this universe.

Keep reading to find out what he revealed about the Peacemaker Season 2 twist.

Peacemaker Season 2 is set to end its run with the season finale, which is supposed to be the longest episode of the season, on October 9. This episode has officially been called the Man of Tomorrow prequel, raising its stakes much higher than they have ever been before. As we prepare for the season finale, the official podcast with James Gunn reveals an interesting facet of the past two episodes.

While the surprise and shock factor were delivered appropriately by Christopher Smith's character, who completely failed to look at the N*zi reality of the second universe, this also begs the question of why such a thing happened. Since Christopher Smith is the protagonist and the narrator of Peacemaker Season 2, except for the lack of people of color, the audience also misses the clues that Harcourt points out to Chris in Episode 7.

It didn't take Emilia Harcourt more than a few hours spent in the universe to notice its bizarre reality, but Chris, who had been staying there for many days, failed to do the same. Christopher being careless and self-obsessed might be the reason, or there might be something deeper, more subconscious involved behind this ignorance.

Here's what we know.

James Gunn on why Chris missed the glaringly obvious N*zi reality of the second universe

When it comes to bias and prejudice against people of color, Christopher Smith would never be considered racist, but his father, Auggie Smith, who raised him, would definitely be considered a white supremacist and N*zi, something that he never fails to show.

So, even though Christopher is not racist and doesn't hold any bias and prejudice in his heart, his upbringing has lent him a subconscious look at the world, making him almost insensitive to the fact that there are no people of color around him. Gunn confirms this theory in the latest podcast episode when he said:

"Life is complicated. He hasn't really taken the time to see what this other world is. And he is not a racist, but he was raised in a certain way, and he doesn’t notice that there aren’t any people of color anywhere around him!"

To which Danielle Brooks, who plays Leota Adebayo, adds:

"which a lot of people don't though. I mean, a lot of people do not, like, understand there's people that have a different walk of life than they do."

These comments do add a deeper understanding of the way that John Cena's Christopher Smith perceives this universe. Much of his way of looking at the world has been shaped by his father's ideas, and even though he goes out of his way to dismantle that bias, the subconscious rose-colored glasses that he has on have led to this ignorance.

Nevertheless, his conscious attempts not to be prejudiced become exceptionally clear with the way he reacts and all his actions once the "rose glasses" are taken off by Harcourt.

These observations have created much higher expectations, but James Gunn has always delivered when the stakes are high. The Peacemaker Season 2 finale preview trailer does make it look like it's not going to be any different this time around.
