Taylor Sheridan's hit TV series, Landman Season 2, returned with the latest episode this Sunday, focusing on how Tommy's personal and professional life is gradually falling apart. While his life is getting hard every day, there's also a family moment that tells a lot about the Norris family.
As seen in the previous episode, Tommy finally confronted T.L., or Thomas (his father), for abandoning him and Dorothy. Thomas explained that he was burdened by guilt and pain and had realized that it was a wrong decision.
First, he lost his daughter after birth, followed by distancing himself from Tommy and Dorothy. Thomas didn't return to their lives until Dorothy left the world, and Tommy reunited with his father after a long time.
But their bond is getting better as Thomas is now staying at Tommy's house in Landman Season 2 episode 5. At the same time, the episode also shows Tommy losing control of the business as he realizes that some decisions at M-Tex are being handled without his knowledge.

Landman Season 2 episode 5 recap: Thomas moves in with Tommy while Angela is busy with her usual chaos
Episode 5 of Landman Season 2 is titled "The Pirate Dinner", and it begins with tension about Thomas staying with the Norris couple. However, Tommy has decided that his father will stay with them as he belongs to a home and not a retirement facility.
While this has been settled, Angela is busy with her usual chaos: attending a fake birthday party at a retirement home and planning an over-the-top pirate-themed dinner for Thomas. Luckily, it was a great plan as the family actually feels good to be together.
Even Thomas feels happy to be around everyone and see how his son and his family live. When Ainsley returns home, she's excited to spend time with her grandfather. Seeing her, Thomas thinks of Dorothy, as Ainsley looks quite similar to her late grandmother.
On the other side, in Landman Season 2 episode 5, Tommy's only son, Cooper, is making some big life decisions. He’s serious about marrying Ariana and agrees to meet her father to prove it. The visit turns out to be more of a test than a threat as Ariana's father mentions that he wants assurance from Cooper.
He cannot let his daughter marry a man who cannot protect her or promise that he won't abandon her. Thankfully, Cooper manages to win his trust and is welcomed by Ariana's family.

Tommy realizes that Cooper has messed up by revealing their relationship in the oil business
Later in episode 5 of Landman Season 2, Tommy realizes that major issues are being handled without his knowledge: accidents, deaths, lawsuits, and insurance problems. He gets frustrated as Tommy belived that he's capable of managing problems as a landman and as president of M-Tex.
Things get worse when Tommy learns that Cooper unknowingly caused massive financial trouble by revealing he was Tommy’s son during business dealings. This mistake puts M-Tex on the hook for huge costs. Tommy steps in to fix it by buying out Cooper’s leases, which means he has ultimately saved his son's future.
Though this has stripped him of the chance to make fast money, it was a necessary decision. To make things more complicated, meetings with lawyers go badly. M-Tex is given strict deadlines and serious threats. The company is sitting on a massive amount of money, but legal loopholes and tax strategies mean they can’t actually use it unless they declare bankruptcy.
Landman Season 2 episode 5 ending explained: Cami, Dan, and why the pirate dinner party was important
The biggest blow in episode 5 of Landman Season 2 episode 5 comes from Dan. It's revealed that he was planning to cheat Cooper, and now positions himself as the only possible solution to M-Tex’s financial nightmare.
On top of that, Cami is incredibly worried about M-Tex and Monty's reputation, so she seriously thinks of working with Dan. For her, saving the company is more important than taking calculated risks.
Though Tommy understands her concern, he clearly warns Cami about Dan's cartel connections and the danger of getting law enforcement involved. Still, Cami didn't back down. She believes Tommy doesn't trust her and has always been judging her decisions.
And this leaves Tommy shaken in episode 5 of Landman Season 2. For the first time, he realizes there’s a threat he might not be able to handle. He knows how ruthless Dan is behind that smile, and can corner him easily.
Tommy feels exhausted from all the clashes that happened today and decides to leave for home. He didn't expect that a pirate party he thought wasn't needed would turn out to be really cheerful for the entire family. Though the tensions remain the same, Tommy got some time to relax with his people.
