Here is a quick Law & Order Season 25 Episode 7 recap.

Detective Theo Walker takes on his first homicide case in Law & Order Season 25 Episode 7

Detective Walker is taking on his first case with Detective Riley. They are investigating the murder of a teenage boy called Omari Kemp in Law & Order Season 25 Episode 7. He was a high school basketball player, who had an immaculate reputation. On the day of the murder, he helped a street musician, even giving him money. When Omari got hurt, the musician immediately called the authorities. While he tried to help him, the murderer got away and he did not get to see his face properly.

When the detectives check on the victim, they do not find any identification. However, his wallet still had money. They deduct that the murder was planned beforehand.

Omari’s mother had died when he was young and his father also passed away in an accident later. He was in foster system and got adopted by James and Katie Pickett. James was taking care of his basketball.

The murder case gets a list of suspects in Law & Order Season 25 Episode 7

The Picketts appear to be decent parents, who had taken interest in Omari after learning that he was playing basketball with their son, Tyler. As the detectives continue to investigate, it becomes obvious that Omari would have gone pro and even made it in NBA. The Picketts were helping with the sports deals that were coming his way.

James shared that on the day of the murder, he had a disagreement with Omari about his commitment to the game. In fact, after their fight he ran out, something the doorman also recalls.

However in Law & Order Season 25 Episode 7, the doorman shares a key information that gets the attention of the detectives. He shares that Omari had had an argument with someone else days before his murder. The detectives learn that it was in fact his coach, with whom Omari had a disagreement regarding the college. The coach wanted him to choose a particular college so he can pocket the finder’s fee. But they conclude that the coach did not kill him.

The detectives get one more suspect, this time, Tyler. Omari’s locker was defaced by him. On interrogation, Tyler reveals that they use to be best friends but suddenly he found new friends, whom he did not approve of.

Omari use to have a girlfriend in his old neighborhood, where he was found murdered. He had in fact gone there to meet her. She had a fight with Omari about his social media posts. He was with a rapper known as Hollow Point, which she did not like. The rapper had a bad reputation and would take Omari drinking. This upset his girlfriend greatly.

In Law & Order Season 25 Episode 7, when the detectives decide to question Hollow Point, his security guards get defensive. Detective Walker manages to calm the situation and tries to make Detective Riley understand the sensitivity of the situation. Hollow Point reveals that he knew of Omari’s exceptional talent and wanted to sign him with his agency.

The foster father is arrested for murder in Law & Order Season 25 Episode 7

The turning point in Law & Order Season 25 Episode 7 comes when it is revealed that James did not approve of a new agent taking over. While he had shared that he was at home on the day of the murder, investigation reveals that he had left through the garage.

James’ web of lies starts collapsing as it is disclosed that the real reason behind his disagreement with Omari was not for his attitude but James’ insecurity regarding his role as his agent. James did not want to lose out on the monetary benefits if Omari decided to sign with Hollow Point’s agent. Katie tells the detective that James had told her that he killed Omari and she tried to cover it up to help him. James gets arrested.

During the trial in Law & Order Season 25 Episode 7, James will assert that he did it for self-defense, a clear sign of racial profiling being used against the victim. James’ stereotypical narrative against Omari continues when he says that he was a violent person and that everyone was scared of him.

That said, Law & Order Season 25 Episode 7 establishes the fact that Omari was known to be a kind person, whose only passion was basketball. In fact, the reason James adopted him was because he knew that his talents will one day make him a big player and he can make money off him.

But James continues to bring out the fact that Omari was a troubled violent teenager, who had attacked him previously at the school as well. Detective Walker discovers the footage but will hide the evidence so James cannot use it against the victim. At the end of Law & Order Season 25 Episode 7, with lack of evidence supporting his claim, the jury will find James guilty of murder.

Detective Riley, however, does not support that his partner was doing things without his knowledge. Riley had spoken to the security at the school and leant about the footage, which Walker said did not exist. He tells him that he understands Walker's reason, but he cannot do things on his own, else he has to find someone else to work with.
