What happened in Episode 3 of Law & Order: Special Victims Unit Season 27?
In Episode 3 of Law & Order: Special Victims Unit Season 27, the SVU squad dealt with the twisted case of a bombing in a women's clinic and later the murder of the clinic's doctor, Ila Mukherjee. Initially, they suspected their rape suspect, Tom Simons, which turned out to be false.
Later, they were taken in the direction of Ila's ex-husband, Chris, by her lawyer. Chris was problematic and was struggling with alcoholism and wanted to take a portion of Ila's clinic to settle the divorce. However, he had an alibi. Therefore, they had to investigate another angle, which took them to the antinatalism cult who were sending death threats to Ila.
While investigating the antinatalism cult, they got hold of a creepy man, Kurt Young, who was also part of the cult but for different reasons. He joined the cult of the young women who were part of it and was dating one of them. The woman, when she saw the reality of the man, revealed that he had killed Autumn, another cult member, with whom he had previously been in a relationship.
Young killed someone, but it was not Ila. Ila was actually killed by her lawyer, Mark Olson. He was struggling with financial problems due to his own mistakes and was delaying Ila's divorce settlement for the money, which would eventually be gone. He was the one who killed Ila by strangling her. With ADA Carisi's help, Olson was nabbed by the squad.
Further, the episode was also Velasco's final moments with the squad as he was leaving for San Diego for his undercover operation. He met Benson and later Fin as well before exiting the precinct and the show.
