Stranger Things Season 5 is just around the corner, as the first part will be released on November 26, 2025, exclusively on Netflix. It will consist of four episodes out of the total eight episodes of the finale season of the beloved horror drama series. The final season will see the characters' final attempt at killing Vecna, but they have to face numerous challenges due to Eleven being hunted by the military.
Stranger Things Season 5 is one of the most anticipated series on Netflix globally, with most of the characters being fan-favorites. While talking about what to expect of these characters, Joe Keery, who plays Steve Harrington in the series, revealed how his character has become a kind of "protector" for Gaten Matarazzo's character Dustin, as he was still dealing with the grief of losing Eddie (Joseph Quinn). While talking to Radio Times, Keery revealed:
"Gaten's character is mourning the death of this important figure his life, Eddie, and it kind of puts Steve in this... he's kind of this protector character and is looking out for him."

Stranger Things Season 5: Joe Keery talks about Steve and Dustin's dynamic
After the events of Season 4, the characters were not in a safe position as rifts were shown to be opening across Hawkins town, putting them all in danger. In Stranger Things Season 5, the group will try to get rid of Vecna once and for all. However, with the incoming of the military in the town to capture Eleven, the group faces more difficulties to face while also fighting Vecan and protecting their town.
In the Radio Times interview, Keery revealed how his character, Steve, has changed and will be seen as more involved in helping Dustin than in other seasons, as he sees himself as the person who should support Dustin in his time of grief.
To add to his previous comment, the actor stated:
"I think it's a cool what they've done with the characters here. You always hope, when you're playing a role, that there's some sort of arc involved. And I feel like this season really starts in a different place. "
He further added:
"It sort of puts him in a self-righteous position, almost where he feels like he knows what [Dustin] should be doing with how he feels. But that's not really the way that you can support somebody."
Therefore, as shared by Keery, in the upcoming season, we will get to see more of the beloved dynamic between Dustin and Steve, but in a different tone, which is accurate for the final season and the final battle.
Apart from sharing about his role in being there for Dustin in Stranger Things Season 5, Keery and Natalia Dyer, who plays Nancy Wheeler, also teased that Steve and Charlie Heaton's character, Jonathan Byers, will also be seen butting heads and fighting.
Stranger Things Season 5 will bring back the beloved cast, which includes Winona Ryder, Millie Bobby Brown, David Harbour, Caleb McLaughlin, Finn Wolfhard, Sadie Sink, and Maya Hawke, among many others.
